The dough wasn’t as thick as it should have been… Oops.

Continuing with my new miniseries, I present to you…

Week 2: Cookies!

Because cookies are such a staple in my dessert life, I wanted to find a recipe that I really liked that integrated whey protein when I stumbled upon this little gem. Now, I can promise you that although my attempt at these cookies didn’t quite turn out perfectly, I still really like the recipe and I recommend it and would definitely make it again.

The baking process

A really cool thing about this recipe is that everything goes into the same bowl, which is not only more convenient, but makes for less clean-up. All I really did was mix all of the ingredients into a big bowl, in the order given in the recipe. I didn’t have enough cereal for the recipe, so I added some extra oatmeal to try to balance it out. That’s where I think I went wrong. Even though I added more oatmeal, the dough was still too thin and I didn’t realize it until I started putting it onto my baking sheets. A few minutes after I put then into the oven, they started to get wider and wider. Instead of having a nice batch of smaller cookies, I ended I up with an odd batch of massive cookies which grew to an impressive size. They also ended up all stuck together, so I had to cut them apart with a spatula, which greatly diminished their aesthetic appeal.

The taste test

The cookies grew to an enormous size, but despite how big they were, they weren’t overly dense.

My initial reaction to these cookies was that they were a bit dry and spongy, but that was more than likely due to my errors. They also weren’t overly sweet, but the cranberries made up for that a little bit. I didn’t have any chocolate around at the time, so I didn’t drizzle anything on top. Despite the fact that they didn’t turn out quite as planned, I really liked them! A few days after I initially baked them, I decided to try to have them for breakfast. I put them in the microwave for 40 seconds and put maple syrup on them. I must say, it was a successful experiment. Best 1-minute breakfast ever.

Conclusions

Even though my poor cookies didn’t exactly work out the way they should have, I know what mistakes I made and how to correct them the next time I make them. They’re really tasty and I would definitely recommend them to anyone who wants a cookie that’s not only delicious, but packed with protein.
