I dream of zombies, an abandoned hotel and Superman?

0

The night was calm; however, through the serenity of night, there I lay dreaming an erratic dream. My dream was unintentionally inspired by The Walking Dead and my yearning to see The Shining. I was the heroine of an isolated hotel, rescuing the inhabitants from man-eating zombies. Then suddenly, Superman appeared in his signature ostentatious manner to save the day, otherwise possibly conceived as stealing my thunder. Surely, this dream is of no relevance to your imagination, but to my unconscious state this dream made perfect sense. I believe we, as human beings all have our own experiences with this phenomenon of dreaming. But are you ever curious as to why we have our outrageous or lucid dreams?

Here is a video that gives a brief explanation behind the ‘reasoning’ of dreams. The video is also from one of my favorite ‘science-esque’ YouTube channels, Vsauce.

Sometimes our dreams become so fascinating that we cannot help but to drift further away from our conscious reality (just as in the epic theory within Inception). Don’t you wish of a day that will arise, where we can record our dreams? It would be remarkable if I could record my dream, like the one above. That way I could someday replay it and reflect upon the footage like a film. Some of you may think this is impossible, but do not give up on Science so soon.

Check out this video from AsapScience:

I hope these videos have allowed many of you to peer into the dimension of man-kind’s unconscious imagination that is defined as dreams. No matter how many savage zombies, horror film reprises and heroes that may appear, our dreams are a brilliant and individualistic output that will always maintain a certain enigma that even science will not be able to solve.

Music Video of the Day: Youth Lagoon’s “Montana”

0

This video certainly pulled at my heartstrings. It’s about a boy growing up and learning to move on after the loss of his father in a war, with the help of the landscape around him. There are many endearing qualities of this video: the soothing voice of Trevor Powers, the background piano and synth-like music, and the fact that we all have to (if we haven’t yet) cope with loss of a loved one someday and while learning to live normally again might seem difficult with all the visceral and conflicting emotions we feel, it is inevitable. Life goes on, and so should we.

18-year-old starts movement for free books

As the cliché goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure; but to share something you love with strangers around the world takes a whole new level of courage, altruism, and passion. Recently on Tumblr, I came across a project called Spread the Words Project started by April, an 18-year-old girl. Motivated by her love for books, she decided to give away her used books internationally, completely free of charge. I was absolutely struck by her willingness to not only help those who may not have the finances to buy books, but also just her simple act of bringing happiness to those around the world. If one has had the opportunity to start a project of one’s own, one would understand the extreme difficulty in gathering a fund to even get the project started – and to pay out-of-pocket for mailing books, April has me completely speechless.

Seeing how amazing the project is, especially for a bibliophile, I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to ask April about her project, her inspirations, and tips for those wanting to start a project of their own!

Can you tell us a little bit about your vision for the Spread the Words Project?
Well, I don’t know the exact destination, but I would like for it to continue to grow. I really love the reactions I get from people who tell me that what I’m doing is good, and that makes me feel like I’m making some kind of difference, even if it’s a small one. Who knows maybe one day this will be huge, but for now I think it’s safe to say that I’ll be keeping headquarters for Spread the Words Project in the spare bedroom of my house. I just want to continue making people happy with this project.

Where did you draw the inspiration to start something of your own?
Well, I had seen many people do giveaways for free [on Tumblr], and I do them as well, but I’ve also seen people do projects where they send a book and then that person sends the book to an address that’s give to them. However, I saw a small flaw in that system because I thought “well, what would happen if the person never sent the book on?” The cycle would stop. I just ended up mixing the two together where I give books to people for free, and they can keep it or pass it on. It’s completely up to them.

How did it feel to start something that is so grand in its scale because of the international component of it?
At first, I was completely and utterly nervous because I didn’t think everyone would be so patient with me and I thought it wouldn’t catch on. Now that I’ve actually started to dig into it, I’m so excited and enthusiastic. Especially when someone messages me tells me how much they love the idea or when they tell me they got a book and how happy they are. I’m really just so grateful that everyone is so patient with me and that I’m making them happy despite making them wait.

It truly is an amazing idea! How can others contribute to the project?
The easiest way would be through a donation via PayPal. It’s not a requirement, but it helps me pay for the shipping which helps me get things out faster. The donation button can be found on the side bar of the homepage, and any amount is very much appreciated. I also accept book donations, which is when people send me their old books to send out. The address for that can also be found in the side bar of the homepage. If any one ever had a question about either of those things, they can easily message me there.

Is there something you would like to share with those who may want to start their own project but may not have the resources or finances to do so?
Well, I would say, don’t bite off more than you can chew. Start of small or join up with a few people are as equally as passionate as you are about whatever it is your doing and make sure they’re committed to it. As your project grows, your ability to do more with it should grow as well. Oh and just be optimistic and enthusiastic, their [sic] will probably be a few bumps in the road, but if what you’re doing is going to benefit several people, it’s probably worth it to keep a positive attitude.

We know that you love books – what is the one book you absolutely cannot live without you believe everyone should read? What impact do you think it had on the project itself or on your life?
Well, I don’t think I can pick one favorite. My absolute two favorites are The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald which taught me so much about how careless the wealthy can be and how ambition is good if your goal is worthy. Another favorite is The Hobbit because I had been a Tolkien fan ever since I was little. However, the book that I think inspires me most and had a big impact on me is Oh, The Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss. That book just sends such a good message, and I honestly think that no matter how old you are, that you should go out and read that book.

The Spread the Words Project is a simple idea, but, needless to say, it has a remarkable potential to become a renowned international project. All it takes is some inspiration, passion, and perseverance to make a difference in the world!

The X-treme lowdown on Xfest 2013

0

I had the wonderful opportunity to go to Xfest 2013 for free (thank you so much for the media passes Xfest)! For anyone who is not quite sure what I am talking about, Xfest is an annual music festival held at Fort Calgary. It is hosted by Union Events and X92.9, and showcases talented alternative rock bands. This year was the first year it was held for two days instead of one.

Capital Cities on Saturday
Capital Cities on Saturday

Overall, the location and cleanliness of the event was great. There were tons of outhouses around the event area, food trucks and many merchandise booths. If I could fix one thing, it would be the water system. You can bring in your own empty water bottles into the event. There were two large water stations on site so you could fill up your bottles, or you could spend $3 on a bottle at the food stations. This would have been okay however, it was so hot and there were at least 300 people there, so the line ups were ginormous.

The musical lineup was very well chosen as well. This blog is going to cover some of the amazing talent that played on Sunday. So if you want the lowdown about Saturday check out Lauren’s post. Here’s a few quick reviews of some of Sunday’s bands.

Family of the Year: They are a very upbeat and fun band, they put on a nice show with energy. However, the commentary in between songs to pump people up was quite boring and kind of odd and unnecessary. Also knowing the band, I did expect a little bit more from the vocals.

Family of the Year
Family of the Year

Half Moon Run: Now I only knew the song Call Me in The Afternoon before I went to the concert, so I didn’t know what to expect. With that said though, I was pleasantly surprised. The energy was great and the vocals we’re even better. The lead singer is extremely talented and has some of the best vocals I’ve heard. It was by far my favourite Sunday performance.

Cold War Kids: This was the final performance I saw that day, and it was a wonderful way to end my weekend. The passion was there, the talent was there and the entertainment was there.  A nice blend of ballads and up tempo pieces. Miracle Mile is one of my favourite songs at the moment, and their performance of it sounded pretty much exactly the same as it does on my iPod!

So there you have it! I hope you choose to come check out next year’s Xfest!

The Timelapse Tales: A full 360° from the Calgary Tower

An iconic symbol, the Calgary Tower is home to a revolving observation deck 191 meters high atop the ground. The breadth of the City from this advantageous vantage point is a dynamic one, which you can get a taste of with this timelapse shot by Matthew D. Cudmore:

In addition to the video, check out the amazing panorama from the Calgary Tower’s website. Take in some more fast-paced imagery with my other posts in this series too.

With the window down, it’s still too HOT!

Be your own boss

0

If I say that a 16-year-old boy has a job, most of us automatically picture him working as a waiter or standing on the floor at a retail store. But how many of you thought of an entrepreneur?

Many successful businessmen have started out as young entrepreneurs. All you need to start your own business is an idea, and the determination to materialize that idea.

Here are a few steps to start you off.

1. Think of the gaps between services provided and your expectations/needs. You might come up with some crazy ideas, but all ideas sound crazy before they materialize. Who in their right minds in the early 1950s would have thought of a machine that washes and dries clothes on mere clicks. But someone did, and we have the washer/drier today.out of the box

2. Look around for resources. Keep an eye on business councils around you and research youth-orientated business projects. You might want to find something like http://www.cybf.ca/. Also start looking for the legal processes followed when starting a business. Keep yourself informed.

3. While looking for resources, start making your Business Plan. This will be a formal document explaining your project (proposal) to your probable financers. This document will contain the technical nitty gritties (including your equation of profit/loss) of your project.

4. Lastly, start building your own network, speak up and share your ideas. You never know when you meet some like-minded person who may help you in your venture.

X Marks Summer’s Alt. Music Festival With X-92.9’s X-Fest

1

The Lowdown:

This year Calgary’s alternative radio-station, X 92.9, marked the end of summer and the September long weekend with their annual music festival X-Fest. Larger then previous years, this year the festival ran two days; Saturday August 31st and Sunday September 1st, and brought crowds of alt. rock and indie fans swarming to Fort Calgary. This year the all ages festival welcomed popular bands such as Passion Pit, Blink-182, Weezer, City and Colour, Mother Mother, and Awolnation, to name a few. As my review’s focus is on the Saturday the festival took place,

X 92.9's Carly and Tyler announcing Blink-182
X 92.9’s Carly and Tyler announcing Blink-182

the bands I will be talking about in detail will all be from the Saturday. For a more in detail look at the Sunday see Audrey’s X-Fest blog.

Saturday’s Shows:

My favourite bands from Saturday’s portion of the show included the likes of Awolnation, Mother Mother, Weezer, and of course, the night’s headliner, Blink-182. Awolnation really got the crowd going, with a mosh pit breaking out in front of the stage during the show, and a plentiful amount of crowd surfers being pulled out during

Awolnation preforming at X-Fest
Awolnation preforming at X-Fest

their performance (during on song the band encouraged the crowd to “see how many girls we can get to crowd surf at once”). The band played such popular hits such as Not Your Fault, Kill Your Heros, Sail, and This Kids Not Alright. However, while their performance was flawless, it seemed almost formulaic and detached, and lacked the intimacy and oneness with the crowd one hopes for at a music festival. In fact, not even an hour after their performance, festival-goers hoping to buy their merchandise were told that they were unable to do so- the band had already packed up and left, it just seemed the band’s heart wasn’t in it.

Next, Mother Mother hit the stage with a great spread of new and old tracks including The Sticks, Hayloft, and Oh My Heart. As always (this was my third Mother Mother performance) the band did a great job with harmonizing their voices, and their unique sound caught my ear as it always had. The audience seemed captivated by their sound too, and I felt this performance held a lot more heart to it then Awolnation’s.

Weezer’s performance opened with their My Name is Jonas, and gave way to a number of tracks which had

Weezer's "W"
Weezer’s “W”

bystanders exclaiming “I never knew this was a Weezer song!” While the band is little know itself, many of it’s songs are quite popular and really well played, and by the time they played Beverly Hills the audience was singing along, although their closer, The Sweater Song, was clearly a crowd favourite. Weezer’s performance was accompanied by a giant lit W behind the band, and although this was a neat touch, for those standing farther away, it was harder to view the band with this prop.

Finally, the night’s close and headlining band, Blink-182 came on after 9. For Blink’s performance the area in front of the stage was packed, even pass the sound tent. Luckily,

Mark Hoppus centre-stage during Blink's show

most of the festival-goers watching Blink-182 were happy to stand and watch, and there were far fewer crowd surfers then earlier during the Awolnation show. As always, the band’s performance was characterized by the attitudes and bad jokes of Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge, and while the band played fun, entertaining hits such as All the Small Things, Whats My Age Again, and The Rock Show, the show did not lack a love song with the band’s performance of I Miss You.

What Else was Happening:

The music wasn’t the only highlight of the festival however, and a range of vendors were set up along the

Food trucks at the festival

festival grounds. Of course, there was a band merch tent, along with other vendors selling wares such ranging from clothing and jewelry, to stickers and pins, or candy. As well there was a small fleet of attending food trucks including such selections as Indian “nacos” (tacos made using nan bread), Greek wraps, pizza by the slice, and of course, mini donuts. There was also a lemonade stand, which, due to popularity, was sold out of most selections by later on Sunday. A unique touch, one I had never seen at a

An entertainer warming up in the ring

festival before, was a wrestling ring where fights took place both days of the festival.

Some Things to Consider:

In conclusion, for those considering attending X-Fest next year, here are a couple considerations:

  • For both of the headlining bands the crowds were packed pass the sound tents, in order to get a good view of the show its best to show up well in advance for the band you’re hoping to see
  • For everyone entering the festival there is a bag search, this means no outside beverages, not even unopened water bottles. They will make you dump it out (on this note there are water stations inside the festival where you can refill for free). They wouldn’t even let me take a Starbucks coffee in, I had to drink it before entering.
  • Another consideration when it comes to the bag search is that they separate men and women, and due to most women having purses  brim full with  goodness knows, the women’s line is multiple times longer IMG_7526then the mens. This means a wait that could be up to, or more then, 20 minutes, so get there well in advance to see your favourite band.
  • Once you leave the festival you can’t come back. I’m not sure why they have this rule, but its important to have in mind when entering, make sure you have everything you need that you won’t be buying inside.
  • Many vendors are cash only (including the merch tent), and while there is a debit machine, the line for it was twice as long as the merch line, so its best just to bring some spare cash.

Robert Thirsk: a look into Calgary’s newest high school

2

Named after former CBE student and famous Canadian astronaut, Robert Thirsk, the school aims to explore, innovate and educate – three things that are near and dear to Thirsk. The school opens its doors today (Sept 3, 2013) to welcome 850 Grade 10 and 11 students (it can hold 1,500 at full capacity). There will be two food trucks beside the school at lunchtime which will serve meals for about $7.

One of Canada's most celebrated and prolific astronauts.
One of Canada’s most celebrated and prolific astronauts.

The principal Chris Meaden (formerly of Arbour Lake school) believes this high school, opening at the turn of the new age, will focus more on the digital arts and the trades…with teachers finding new and innovative ways to teach students (aptly dubbed the Comets) the curriculum (more smartboards, rather than blackboards).Aside from being brand spankin’ new, the school boasts a broadcast centre that includes a green screen, a state-of-the-art culinary kitchen, an art room hosting a kiln, a band room with brand-new instruments and a 230-seat theatre. The school colours attend to its namesake, being black, silver and blue.

The school will have 50 staff members starting out, and with its place on the hill overlooking the Rocky Mountains and being close to communities such as Arbour Lake, Hawkwood, Royal Oak, Citadel and Scenic Acres, it sure is off to a good start!

Infographic aggregates Social Media statistics on #YYCFlood

0

In June, the YYCFlood articles which our bloggers crafted in the matter of a few days reaffirmed how quick the internet had to react to current issues. We weren’t even out of the state of emergency as I was doing my blog article on how social media reacted to the Alberta Floods; my late additions to the initiatives and hashtags I included in my post piled up to double the length of my post.

Indeed, it was the likes of Twitter and Facebook that provided real-time updates, from the onset of the storm to the moment of relief when the state of emergency was finally lifted. The social media platforms were home to some unique happenings, from the @CalgaryPolice account reaching the post limit to #yychelps becoming a prevalent force in the rebuilding. I remember these moments fondly personally, but the statistics down below will give us an idea about social media as a whole when it comes to the particular posts and accounts that came to prominence.

Enough of my intro, please enjoy this infographic made by Calin Daniel at Inbound Interactive. Click the picture for a bigger image. 🙂

What a comprehensive overview. In case you want to head back a bit in time, here are all the YAA blogs with the YYCFlood tag. 🙂

Why It’s Strange That the Syrian Government Would Use Chemical Weapons

0

I have always learned, that in order to figure out politics, you have to (excuse my language) wade through the BS to get to the political truth. Here is my interpretation of that truth.

Tensions keep rising in Syria as the chemical attack from Aug 21 stresses the nations of the world. Over 1,300 have died from the chemical attack, and are still counting. Many questions spawn in international and national legislatures such as, “Should we intervene in Syria because of this?” “Did the Syrian government use chemical weapons?” Well with all the opinions out there, both belligerent and not, I shall lend you mine in hopes of understanding.

hi-kerry-syria-cp-04911375

“Let me be clear: The indiscriminate slaughter of civilians, the killing of women and children and innocent bystanders, by chemical weapons is a moral obscenity. By any standard it is inexcusable, and despite the excuses and equivocations that some have manufactured, it is undeniable.”: – John Kerry: Secretary of State of the United States of America

Simply said, I doubt that the Syrian government would use chemical weapons. I’m not saying that they didn’t use them, nor am I saying that they did, I’m just saying that it’s extremely strange that the Syrian government would use chemical weapons, despite what John Kerry says to be an indisputable, undeniable truth.

Why Chemical Attacks May Spur Military Intervention – The Short Answer

Let’s start with what happened before the chemical strike. On Dec 3rd, President Obama warned Syria that using chemical weapons would cross the red line, and that it’s usage would cause the U.S to intervene. Though you may ask why the U.S hasn’t intervened before, when thousands of innocent bystanders were killed by their own government, the restrictions laid down upon by both Russia and China’s UN vetoes put political pressure on the US to not intervene. Going against these vetoes in the United Nations would be seen as sort of a infliction upon Russia and China’s sovereignty, and would cause havoc in international relationships.

Therefore, the US turned to chemical weapons. What the US government hasn’t said when publicizing their accusations on Syria was the existence of the Chemical Weapons Convention, which basically restricted all production and usage of chemical weapons. This convention being signed by the majority of the world, besides Syria and others, can give America what they needed. A justifiable, international justification for a strike against Syria, that can overcome political pressure. They can use this convention during UN meetings to gather international support and justification for a military intervention.

basharal-assad

“How can the government use chemical weapons, or any other weapons of mass destruction, in an area where its troops are situated?” he said. “This is not logical. That’s why these accusations are politically motivated, and a recent string of victories of the government forces is the reason for it.” – Syrian President Bashar Assad

Now here is the reason why accusations on Syria are strange. If we look at the Syrian government perspective, why would I want, in light of this recent threat from the most powerful military nation in the world, to use chemical weapons when it’s their only, single best justification to attack us? So Syria “switched” their method of massacre, just to get the most powerful militaries to strike them, in a civil war they’re already winning? Quite simply, they would get crushed.

Although I would personally say that in the start, massacring their own people was a stupid, horrible act, I don’t think the Assad Regime is stupid enough to commit this blunder. It really would be an illogical response in the face of danger.

Not only is this fact one reason why it’s strange that the Syrian government would use chemical weapons, there’s also America’s “evidence.” Evidence that supposedly caused many in the U.S government to say that Syria “undoubtedly”, “undeniably”, used chemical weapons. Very strong words in the world of politics. In light of this claim, there is no single piece of evidence that the US has ever shown to the public that can truly prove Syria’s initiation of chemical attack.

There is however, this public statement made by the White House:

“Last Wednesday, in the hours after a horrific chemical attack east of Damascus, an official at the Syrian Ministry of Defense exchanged panicked phone calls with a leader of a chemical weapons unit, demanding answers for a nerve agent strike that killed more than 1,000 people. Those conversations were overheard by U.S. intelligence services, The Cable has learned. And that is the major reason why American officials now say they’re certain that the attacks were the work of the Bashar al-Assad regime — and why the U.S. military is likely to attack that regime in a matter of days.”

Now it’s really unknown if this went the way that they said. Perhaps a Syrian soldier went beyond his bounds? Maybe a rebel launched it instead? Or the Syrian government actually did initiate this attack? Or worse yet, this information is fabricated, or lacks information. Either way, we have already concluded that the stupidity of the Syrian government actually initiating this attack (inviting the west), is a factor in this issue. As we can see, this problem is more complicated than what is simply said on the news. Or as the Vlogbrothers say,

“As always, the truth is complicated”

iraq-war-shock-and-awe

‘U.S invasion of Iraq’

Now I certainly don’t know who initiated this chemical attack. I can only say that jumping to conclusions is the worst thing to do. Back even to the Iraq Invasion, when American Intelligence stated that Iraq was developing “weapons of mass destruction,” lead to one of the biggest blunders in world history. It also showed us how much faulty intelligence, an ethnocentric view, a hyped-up government, and a flimsy justification can inflict harm to countries, it’s people, it’s cultures, and it’s worldviews. It can be seen to deduction, that Syria shows this stark resemblance to the Invasion of Iraq. Let’s just hope that it won’t end up to that.

Syria has recently allowed the United Nations to inspect their country for this accusation. I can only suggest that we wait for a non-nationalistic entity like the U.N to finish investigating the issue, and post-pone military intervention in the mean time. That is my opinion. Of course in the mean-time, there will most likely be many killings in Syria as the civil war goes on. To that, I can only say that for the sake of preventing something worse, in light of China and Russia’s veto, and Iraq/ U.S’s bloody history, that knowing the full issue is of the utmost importance.

Ease into the school year

0

The last week of summer has got to be the most painful. With the new semester just around the corner, the thought of having to wake up early, sit through classes, and follow a daily routine is absolutely terrifying after two carefree, spontaneous months. But there are definitely things you can do to make easing into the school year less painful, and here are some examples.

index
tombasson.wordpress.com

1) Watch the clock. As difficult as it sounds, try to regulate your sleep-wake cycles. I know that most of us had become almost completely nocturnal during the span of the summer, but it’s time to re-adjust for school. Try setting an alarm for yourself to wake up half an hour earlier everyday. That way, once September gets here, waking up won’t be that much of a problem.

woman-reading
lifedev.net

2) Pages of a new adventure. For those of you who enjoy reading in your spare time, your hobby will help you adjust to the school year. Try starting a new book today, partitioning off the pages so that you will finish reading the day before school starts. This will help you get used to routines after the summer.

boy-watching-tv

3) Put away the remote. Maybe it’s just me, but I find that once I start a TV series, I have a tendency to become glued to the TV until I finish watching every episode. Sadly, once school starts, sitting in front of the television all day will not be an option anymore. So starting today, try to cut down on the amount of time you spend staring at the screen (that goes for the computer as well).

4) Look the part. If you haven’t yet done so, maybe it’s time to go stationery shopping. Not only do you have to be mentally prepared for school, you have to have the right equipment. Staples awaits, people, time to stock up on supplies!

male-college-student-backpack

5) Be excited. Last but not least, part of school is really just making new friends and having fun. Every class is capable of being interesting if you just give it a chance. I, for one, am excited for the school year, I look forward to seeing all my friends again, and making new ones as well. Every day is a new adventure in school, you learn new things all the time, not only from classes, but from the people around you too. September is just around the corner, people, time to get ready for a new year of wonderful memories.

Vinyl Sales rising

Vinyl is back – for now

Vinyl sales have risen by 27.9 per cent with a projected 5.8 million vinyl records sold this year, compared to 4.6 million sold last year (according to www.digitalmusicnews.com and a fabulous article written by Paul Resnikoff). I’m not quite sure what sparked this change or why people like me love it so much. I think it is just a matter that you are bringing back something from the past, just to keep some part of your life a little less modern. However I can’t just sit here and rave about records because I can’t say they are super practical, so here are some of the things about vinyl records that are a little less fun.

Price: This is the biggest inconvenience of all, because of course vintage is expensive. It really comes down to the production. CDs and MP3s compact the sound to fit more onto one CD or to take up less space on your iPod or Phone. One album is usually takes up about 35 MB of space. Well, if you did not compact down the size, you would get a record. The size is never compacted so there is usually three or four songs on one side and depending on the size of the album, there can be two or even three vinyl records. Hence the average $25 price tag on new vinyl records. Not to mention the average $45 for old vintage finds.

Scratches: They scratch so easily and to start up an album on your player takes great precaution. It is hard to have a scratch free album – it takes practice. My first album I ever bought (Mumford and Sons Sigh No More album, for the record) doesn’t even play the last song anymore!

records

With that said, it takes a special kind of person to like vinyl. It is definitely fun to collect and have as a hobby, if you are willing to pay the price.

A curious book that isn’t really about a dog

curiousMy thoughts on The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon

When I first started reading this book, I thought a page or two was missing, as a clear number 2 was sitting on the page, labelling the first chapter I was about to read. However, the labelling of chapters simply comes down to the fact that Christopher Boone prefers prime-numbers, and knows all of them up to 7,057. Christopher Boone himself is even more unfamiliar to most of us than how the chapters are labelled. He is autistic, yet in this book, the reader doesn’t explore a condition, but rather the intense mind of this teenage boy.

Now, my title isn’t completely true, as there is a dog in the story. The plot that guides the deeper narration is about Christopher’s neighbour’s dog being murdered, and how he sets out to find who is guilty of such a crime. Loving animals is yet another of the endless quirks that Christopher possesses.

In my opinion, this was an exceptional novel. A common complaint among many readers is that the writing-style and narration is overwhelming and at times confusing, as it is written as if Christopher was the author, and therefore it is very intense and sometimes scatter-brained. Personally, I loved this aspect. I found that it gave the novel a whole new level of depth, and evoked emotion much more than normal text would. One of my favourite types of books is that which has a fairly minor physical plot, which mainly serves as a guideline and measurement of time and space for a deeper exploration of a character or idea.

To end off, I’ll say this: whether or not you enjoy this book really comes down to your expectations and what you want from it. If you are looking for meaning, truth, and unfiltered intensity, this book is for you, regardless of your preferred genres. If you seek simple stuff and fluffiness, try another book, because I doubt you’ll be able to willingly get very far.

Thank you for reading this post 🙂 Hopefully you will continue reading, and I highly suggest you spend some of that on The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.

Often in our day to day lives, we feel we are too busy to help other people. But being kind is an attitude. This video shows some examples of the simple actions that help people believe in humanity. These acts are neither time consuming nor expensive. But these acts are priceless because they build a heart-to-heart connection between two unknown people. These sweet deed of kindness have a Ripple Effect. We are all different yet we speak many common languages. The LANGUAGE OF KINDNESS is one of them. Lets all talk our hearts out.
