You know you are music obsessed when you can name and sing along to the songs featured in commercials and TV trailers. I have seen many a commercial and or movie trailer and have wondered what the song is. But I have also seen many a commercial and or trailer that I already know and love the song playing in the background. So here is a list of a few songs that I have recognized from various commercials and movies trailers that I have put here for you to enjoy! Don’t forget to comment a song and what commercial or movie trailer it is used in, if you happen to know.
1. Elephant by Tame Impala
You may have seen this commercial for the Blackberry Z10, but maybe you didn’t know the amazing song behind it is Elephant by Tame Impala!
I’m sure you’ve all seen this Buick commercial, little did you know that the song in the background is just an instrumental of Lovely Cup by the one and only Grouplove.
Today, I saw on tumblr what may be the single most adorable post of all times. Until now, I didn’t know of the existence of Tea Cup Pomeranians, but there really are no words that are capable of describing this level of cuteness. If you wish to check out the original source of these photos, feel free to click here. So, now, without further ado, here’s your daily slice of happiness in the form of the most endearing creature ever!

Success seems a long way away. We have all had times when we felt the overwhelming burden of the path to success. To say that success is easy is a humongous understatement. However, success is a phenomenon that is within our reach. We already know how to achieve it, but sometimes we need a reminder and a little logic to push ourselves further. Work hard; do not let fate do the work for you!
Keep in mind these six little tips to help you in your journey:
1. Do NOT procrastinate, EVER.
Make a plan, a schedule or a checklist. Reduce the number of distractions as much as possible. A good way to do this is to organize a simple and minimal work space. To achieve maximum efficiency, only keep the items absolutely necessary for your work; forget about everything else.
You already know that procrastination is a massive waste of time. Refocusing after a distraction does not happen immediately, despite what you would like to think. Be cautious of the times you let your attention wander off. Keep yourself on track and focused. And when you feel yourself slipping away, remind yourself that every minute you waste here, you will have to make up for later.
2. RELIEVE your stress.
The important thing to remember here is that relieving stress does not equate to procrastination. Ideally, your stress relief would not generate more stress afterwards. Being calm and composed is the ideal for peak work efforts and ethics. Rest and relax. Sometimes, having a good cry will do just the trick. Do not overwork or over-stress yourself. Try to exercise regularly; it is extremely beneficial for relieving stress. Think of it as sweating out your frustrations.
3. Always REMEMBER.
Remember your mistakes, and your past struggles wherein you have learned by failure. Remember the times that you made an effort to push through and reach your goal. The collaborative collection of these experiences are what makes us knowledgeable and ultimately, successful.
4. Do NOT succumb to negative emotions.
As you hold on to past lessons and experiences, make a conscious attempt not to be deterred by past emotions. Accept that what’s happened has happened, and time cannot be unwound. Do not dwell too long on negative feelings, because you are become vulnerable to stress and depression. Rather then mulling over broken toys, it is better to aim to repair what is damaged.
Never give up.
5. Be the student AND the teacher.
Remain a student, no matter how old you are. Always keep an open mind and welcome new ideas, and know that the world is effervescent of an infinite number of ideas, which are also constantly in exploration and development. Who knows what amazing things you could uncover?
Help out others in their pursuit of success. Wisdom is circulated throughout the world without a specific starting point. Sharing with others will contribute to expanding your circles of friends and acquaintances.
6. FOLLOW your instinct…logically.
Do what makes you happy more, and worry about superficial subjects less. What the most successful people in life always suggest is to wholly dedicate yourself to your dream, and work hard toward that desire. Logically following your heart requires you to make decisions that are reasonable as well as coinciding with your desires. Being a hundred percent successful in life entails that you are happy as well. Trust yourself. At the end of the day, you are the only one truly responsible for your own happiness.
However, if your instinct is to procrastinate, then forget about it.
These tips sound easy, but they are not simple tasks. Just remember that the longer you persevere, and the harder you strive, the greater the reward!
I leave you this advice with a cheesy saying: Stay strong. ☆ Good luck in all of your endeavors! Success is just ahead.
Foooooooooood. A common object of love. I mean, really, who doesn’t like it? Yet, for numerous reasons, we often reject the most important serving of it. That’s right, breakfast. School nurses, doctors, parents, they’ve probably told you this already.
For some people, it’s a lack of time.
For some, it’s a watchful eye on their weight. But guess what? Eating within an hour of getting up boosts your metabolism. A.k.a. you will burn more fat. A.k.a. eat breakfast, even if you are trying to lose weight.
For others, it’s a lack of motivation.
And there’s tons of other reasons and I am here to inspire you to eat breakfast.
A good breakfast should be…
-hearty
-protein-rich
-low in sugar
-rich in fibre
-something you will ACTUALLY EAT!
So, what are some good choices for breakfast?
-First of all, check Pinterest or any cooking websites or any books or anything of the sort, and you will be able to chose from an infinite number of more-than-edible breakfast concoctions.
–Oats: This high-fibre, filling, healthy breakfast can come in a package from Quakers, or you can get creative and cook up your own with oats, brown sugar, fruit, etc.
-Eggs: Until a week or two ago, I hated eggs for breakfast because I thought they were so plain and bland. But… then I made myself a piece of toast, scrambled some egg, and smothered it with cheese to create a delicious breakfast sandwich that I have replicated many times since. Breakfast burritos, omelettes, and frittatas are more options to make yourself wonder why you don’t eat eggs every morning.
–Fruit: It’s sweet. It’s addictive. It’s delicious. It’s healthy. And it makes for a great start to the day. Try making your own fruit salad, or get real fancy and blend up a fruit smoothie.
–Yogurt: Yogurt on its own might not be satisfactory for brightening up your day, but if you swirl in some fruit, cereal, and other goodness, you’ve got yourself an oh-so-good parfait.
Now, get creative! Search the internet for something that sparks your interest, and break-the-fast with breakfast!
Food+energy+yum= why wouldn’t you eat breakfast?
Oh, and if you get the chance, breakfast can also be a great time to try out cool restaurants 🙂 Red’s Diner. OEB.
No, this post is not going to be about the christening of Prince George, Will and Kate’s newborn baby. Today, I will be writing about the hype that royalty creates in our society, and I have a bone to pick with that.
It is a primitive idea to thing that you get to be born into royalty. As advanced as we are not, I do not agree with the whole “royalty” thing that exists in many countries (such as Britain, Belgium, Spain, and many African/Middle Eastern countries), because it gives the reinforcement that some people are just born better than you. We already have enough of that with some kids being born wealthier than others, but do we really need to give them that venerated title of “royal?”
Basically, I find it unfair that, in three months, Prince George has gotten more fame, wealth, and publicity than I have in 16 years.
I know that some may argue that tradition is the main reason why Britain keeps its monarchy. I love tradition, don’t get me wrong, but when it inherently places somebody as more important than someone else, then it becomes a problem.
The concept of “royal” dates back to ancient times. Royals were royal because they had a special connection with God. They got the power, the wealth, and the glory because they were holy. Nowadays, people don’t think like that anymore.
I believe that special privileges and statuses should come with hard work, skill, and talent. Sure, some people have a better chance of achieving this, but it is definitely more fair than simply being born a prince.
I am a Canadian. I love Canada; it’s the best country in the world. I’m not trying to disrespect our monarchy (even though we don’t really have one), but I really do like the idea of voting for your representatives, your mayors, and your prime minister. They got to where they are now with hard work and campaigning. Then again, anybody can wish for a democracy in every country. In fact, Britain’s monarchy does not compare to the dictatorship run in North Korea. Maybe I shouldn’t be complaining.
However, I would like to hear other people’s argument to the idea of royalty. I know that many hold a different opinion than I. Comment down below if you want to voice your opinion, maybe make me change my mind.
After a long struggle of women to achieve the same rights as men, slowly but surely most countries move towards more equality. What women have realized is to better their position is to take over typical male-dominated jobs, and change the individual country’s perception of the abilities of women. Women aren’t just providers for their family, but they are also great entrepreneurs and addition to the workforce in general! So here the top five influential female politicians that have showed the world that the answer to some questions can be simple: A woman!
1.Angela Merkel
The chancellor of Germany has been one of the most influential women in politics for a long time. Her accomplishments include being the first female chancellor of Germany, as well as first female leader of the party she represents. She did live in the DDR, which made Merkel understand, since she has experienced such first hand, the hardships women encounter under unconsiderate governments, and has been very engaged in helping step towards greater gender equality in Germany. It becomes very evident that women and youth are close to her heart when considering her position as Minister of Women and Youth from 1991 to 1994. The international connections Merkel values lead into the next two influential women, with which she has met over time.
2. Dilma Rousseff
The president of Brazil is similar to Merkel in one way: She is the first woman to ever hold the office of the president of Brazil! She has lived through Guerilla groups attacking the military dictatorship, tortured during her own capture between 1970 and 1972. This experience shaped her decision to establish the Democratic Labour Party. Yet she ran for president for the Workers’ Party.
3. Michelle Obama
Though ‘only’ the wife of the President of the United States, Mrs. Obama has an impressive life story. When she was born, her parents raised her and her brother with a lot of love, which she now brings to her own role as a mother. She is also a wife, lawyer and civil servant, but she always stresses that more than anything she is a mom. I believe this to be the reason she is so influential: She is filled with love, despite her extraordinary role everyone can identify themselves with her, and she makes us proud to be a woman.
4. Sonia Gandhi
Born in Italy, Sonia Gandhi has been the President of the Indian National Congress since 1998, having been introduced to politics by her now deceased husband, former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi, which she only joined though in 1997, six years after her husband’s assassination. She has been the longest serving President so far. She is the fifth foreign-born leader of the Congress Party, but only the first since the independence in 1947. India is a more traditional country, and Gandhi shows women can bring significant change.
5. Geun-hye Park
Her Excellency is the 11th president of South Korea, after having been the leader of the Saenuri Party and First Lady. She is the first female president of South Korea, and also first woman head of state in the modern Northeast Asia, considered in South Korea the most influential politician since the presidencies of the two Kims. She was also known as “Queen of Elections.”
What a list! I guess all girls and women are a little more empowered now! And as one can tell, powerful women can be found all over the world! Could you be the next?
OMG! Halloween is around the corner and you are still unsure about your Halloween costume. No worries! Face painting is just what you need. Splash some color onto your face and play with it. And now here comes the most awesome part… you don’t need to care about an allergic reaction, because you can make and use natural colours.
Here is what you need:
For the base of each colour you need:
2 x tbsp cornflour
1 tbsp cold cream
1 tbsp cold water
Plus:
Red food colouring
Black food colouring
And any other color of your choice (Blue, Green, Yellow and whatever other food color available in the superstore!)
Procedure: Mix all the ingredients together.
Then seperate the mixture into different bowls.
Add one food color to each bowl (only a few drops each)
Leave one bowl mixture as it is. White color is a good base to various masks!
Stir the now colorful mixture in all the bowls.
Now search for some spooky faces on the internet, and start coloring your face, using brushes (don’t hesitate to use your hands! 😛 )
Biking: one of the healthiest activities in our current society. However, according to the Comprehensive Cycling Strategy, who did a survey on Calgarians in 2010, only 6 per cent of Calgarians say they ride a bike to school or work. 19 per cent say they ride their bike daily or at least once a week. AutoBike is here to change those trivial numbers. Based in the US, AutoBike wants to change the current bike market from biking gear to the fun of biking. It changes gears for you automatically and seamlessly. Most bikes in the market today glitch for a second and give you a mini-heart attack. AutoBike fixes that, and also changes the gears for you. “The rider always feels like they are in perfect gear,” says founder Sean Simpson.
In addition, AutoBike comes with Bluetooth that can send data from the bike to your phone. This means you can check the speed you were at when you were on the bike and the number of miles you travelled.
Now comes the problem of power. There needs to be power to change the gears, so where does it come from? Well, you don’t need to worry. The AutoBike uses the energy from your pedaling to generate the gear changes. The founder of the AutoBike also says, “it is the most intuitive bike for you.” And it is. It consists of a brain, a gear changer, a rear gear hub, and a self-generation power source (see diagram of the AutoBike Voyage ST). Currently, the AutoBike costs 100 dollars each and plans to sell 2000 more bikes by this time next year.
This is the bike of the century so go check it out at:
I have officially hit that capricious period of sleep that arises with the middle of first semester. The only thing that keeps me going is the fact that I am not alone. Sleep is essential to a human’s daily functions. As we all have heard, eight hours is the ideal amount for sleep. However, we also know that most of us are usually sleep deprived. Many of us (especially students) lack sleep because we are working into the night. But do not use the excuse that you have a huge exam the next day and that you have to pull an all-nighter to study. The truth is your brain needs those eight hours of rest to mull over the study material. Therefore, by staying up, you are setting your brain up for a longer night than necessary. Sleep deprivation can also lead to frightening health conditions, such as diabetes. Other effects may be irritability (which most of are guilty of), memory loss and the risk of obesity. Not to mention, those horrid dark circles. In conclusion, sleep means good.
Since we have established that sleep is a crucial aspect of all of our lives-except for maybe vampires or other mythical creatures (if any of you are out there, give me a shout out @YAABecca on Twitter)-let me present to you some tips that will help you to enjoy those glorious hours of snoozing:
Turn off those cellular devices or any other technologies. By turning off these devices, you are allowing yourself to be free from any distraction. Do not even leave the television on as it will likely distract you from getting your sleep.
Exercise/Stretch. Doing physical exercise during your day will rid your body of excess stress and it will also assist in tiring your body out. Thus, your body will be much more willing to go to sleep. Stretching will also help your body to relax. For some exercises to do before bed, click here.
Create a schedule for yourself. Avoid sleeping at random and inconsistent times. Establish a firm sleeping time for every night. This will let your body know when it is time to go to sleep, instead of tossing and turning during the night.
Take a cat nap. Despite many debates, napping is a-okay. It can most often be beneficial for you. However, keep the naps short (20-30 minutes) and strive to take this nap in the late afternoon. These napping tips will help you to avoid that dreaded groggy feeling. Check out this link for more dos and don’ts for naps.
Set the mood. Light some candles (Bath and Body Works has some great stress-relieving candles), turn the temperature down, turn off the lights and snuggle into the warm bliss of your soft comforter. Creating the right environment is significant to getting sleep. Do what is the most comfortable for you. If you like cushions, get a bunch of cushions for your bed. If you hate cushions, then opt for a single plush pillow. It all depends on what works for you.
I hope that these simplistic tips allow you to get your much needed sleep. Snooze away my fellow readers, snooze away.
I am one of those people that has their iPod plugged in all the time. I love music and I’m always listening to it, whether it be on the bus or doing my homework. Recently, I discovered a new band that I’ve absolutely fallen in love with, so I thought that I would share them with you all!
The band is called Bastille. If you’ve never heard of them before, they’re a group based out of London, England. The band consists of four guys by the names of Dan Smith, Chris “Woody” Wood, Kyle J Simmons and William Farquarson. They released their first album titled “Bad Blood” in the UK in March of this year, however it only came out in North America in September.
Ever since this album came out, I cannot stop listening to it!
I’ve included a link down below to one of my favorite songs off the album; let me know what you think!
Ever heard the saying “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure?” It most definitely applies to addictions as well.
The thing is, addictions are tough to handle. Luckily, I experienced this addiction when I was much younger, so the consequences were much less harmful then they could have been. But even now, as I complete my psychology research project about the very same topic, I find myself struggling. When you’re feeling stressed by homework and other thoughts, it can be tempting to turn to video games.
Don’t.
In Elementary and Junior High, I was seriously addicted to video games. I’d play six hours a day, and in the summer, I would play non-stop. I’d wake up in the morning and play all the way until night. It was serious, and my computer got locked up because of it. The effects are obvious, and everyone’s seen and heard of it.
But you’ve never really experienced something until you’ve actually experienced it.
I got into huge fights with my family, never attended meals or family activities, became depressed and constantly played games. It was hell. Even if I wasn’t actually enjoying it, I still continued to play it. Because at that point, you have nothing else in your life except for the game. Suicidal thoughts begin to creep in.
You may think that it’s harmless and that you know how to handle it. But not enough attention is drawn to video games. In reality, it’s just a drug for all ages.
Please, be aware of the effects of video games. Do not carelessly engage in six hour gaming sessions just because you have no homework. Do not resort to video games when you are procrastinating. Do not use video games to ease your pain. I’m serious.
The addiction is very, very hard to get out of. Even a few years after my addiction, it is still difficult to deal with. Which is understandable for gamers – it’s part of us, but you can’t let it control your life. Pick up another hobby to supplement your gaming, so that you can switch between the two to control yourself.
Here’s a couple of tips you can use to help prevent yourself from getting addicted: – DO NOT RELY OR RESORT TO GAMES TO MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER. (ie. during procrastination, depression, etc.) It becomes a conditioned behavior, and you will begin to play games every time you feel anxious or want to procrastinate, leading into an addiction. Practice self control.
– DO NOT PLAY MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER ONLINE ROLE PLAYING GAMES (MMORPG’s, like World of Warcraft.) They are literally designed to make you addicted. This is the one that catches the most people because of it’s social and grinding elements. Because everyone has to try everything once, at the very least, PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN PLAYING THEM UNLESS YOU ARE SOMEONE WHO HAS DEALT WITH THIS ADDICTION BEFORE.
– ENGAGE IN CONTROLLED SESSIONS WHILE YOU CAN. Don’t go wild when you have free time and you are allowed to play video games. Control yourself while you can. Remind yourself that you can always play later, and engage in another activity. If you practice self control now, you will be able to resist the addiction. Giving in does not get rid of your desire to play video games – it only enhances it. You will not get tired of it, because even if you do become tired of it, you will simply rest up and get back into bigger gaming sessions.
The only relevance that picture has to this wonderful topic is that debit machine in the corner. But hey, who doesn’t like a big bucket of candy?
Candy is especially relevant to the nature of where I’m working though. After all, I work at ScreamFest! If you don’t know about it, Aaron has a super awesome post that also partially served as my inspiration. Being a cashier for my first paid job gave me some “occupational knowledge” and areas of improvement, big and small, that I need to work on. I’m excited to share that with you, just not the candy. (HA.)
Out new plastic bills are still a fascinating sight, but the nature of the polymer means they don’t tend to fold easily. When they are crisp, they are easy to flatten, but we all tend to bend a bill or two in our wallets. Unlike paper bills when they are bent, the folds tend to curl up the bills. Sure, they look more presentable as they don’t crease, but the curls don’t fare well in a till or in a bundle!
The POS (point-of-sale) machines (A.K.A debit machines) we use don’t have strong blades, so extra attention must be given as to not tear the receipt in half or something. I’m not a very delicate person, so my brute force sometimes resulted in receipts like this:
Event wristbands can be horribly uncomfortable; the only thing that was good about Sled Island being cancelled this year was that I could get rid of the wristband I got as a volunteer. It’s uncomfortable having them on, but it’s even worse being the one to put them on. Having them stuck to hair, too loose, or too tight; you name it! I don’t blame people for coming back and requesting a new one cause I sincerely bombed learning that skill.
I work in a trailer pictured above, so we are side by side to each other. While we do get a very nice share of space to work in, disorganization means sometimes I end up dropping something on the floor, which leads confusion as to who dropped what. Thankfully, it’s always been a wristband from my till, not a bill or anything. Other times, it means I end up getting confused as to what pattern of putting bills and items is. I’m slowly learning what’s my preferences are, but I need to get on it fast.
Eye contact is an important aspect of the service industry, and of course it’s always nice having a welcoming cashier. In this position, I’ve often found myself working under a lot of stress, whether it’s to serve customers quickly or to quickly tend to ripping some wristbands and all that. Sometimes, that meant my eyes were fixed on till, and not really towards the person I’m serving. Attentiveness is especially important when the customer has questions, so this is especially important as the first step.
The bottom line is, I just love this first job, cash handling and what not. Now that I’m done with my observations, what “occupational knowledge” have you gained? Tweet or comment away! I’m going to check out the alleged maple syrup flavour scent of our plastic bills in the meantime. 😀
For those interested in scoping out a brand new establishment, Red’s Diner recently opened a location in Ramsay. The diner’s first day of business was Thursday, October 10, and the spiffy new decorations boast it; the gleaming, brand new, and stylishly modern, yet rustic décor making Red’s the perfect spot to spend a sociable Sunday afternoon with friends or family. Not only this, but Red’s is also a pleasant stroll away from Inglewood’s main street, and the many shopping attractions there.
Upon arrival the staff was both friendly and prompt, quick to seat patrons, and to bring glasses of ice water to the table. When ordered, the drinks also came fairly briskly, and the server described how many orders were already in the kitchen, giving an idea of how long the wait might be. However, it was evident that Red’s still has some kinks to work out of their system after October’s grand opening. Food was fairly slow arriving for an order of breakfast dishes during off-hours, about 15 to 20 minutes, even with the restaurant half full and only three orders ahead of us. Also, dishes that were prepared sat on the service counter while the rest of the food was brought out, and until a server was available to take the order out, making for a less-than-ideal warm meal.
While the food was somewhat slow to arrive, considering it was mid-afternoon (not during peak times) it is still recommended that one visit Red’s mid-afternoon (between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. is most likely best), as during peak hours the wait is be much longer due to crowds. That being said, as the restaurant is newly opened, there is a good chance that Red’s will better streamline their dining experience in the near future.
While the decor and design of the restaurant gave it a trendy, upscale look, the atmosphere of the restaurant was not as ambient as its design. The music played consisted mostly of ‘80s punk and new wave, including bands such as Eurythmics and The Clash, and fit in well with the booth and counter-style diner. The funky feel of the diner, however, was disrupted by an excess of background noise, from both the kitchen and from the loud chatter of various customers, which would make for a drowning procession of noise during the busiest hours.
As for the diner’s restroom facilities, they were clean and new, although those
Red’s classic Eggs Benny
wishing to use them had to go to the building’s basement for access, and the bathrooms themselves were quite small, with only two stalls.
Reviewers on restaurant review sites, such as Urbanspoon, were polarized in their views of Red’s, with many of the reviewing patrons either loving or hating the restaurant. Complaints about the restaurant included that the portions and quality were not adequate for the pricing, and that staff service was marginal at best. However, other reviewers loved Red’s, many dubbing it their favourite breakfast destination, with delicious meals and a stylish ambiance. One dish in particular that seemed quite popular among reviewers was the Eggs Benedict ($14), a dish consisting of two poached eggs on an english muffin, with back bacon and hollandaise sauce, an emulsion of liquid butter and egg yoke usually seasoned with lemon juice, salt, and pepper. The dish is then served with a selection of fresh fruit and hash browns.
Unfortunately, the dish seemed to be sitting out “waiting” for the other dishes to be fully prepared as upon arrival the hashbrowns and eggs were lukewarm, with areas of the hashbrowns almost completely chilled. On the whole, this dish was very sub-average, with the Eggs Benedict being not much better than standard fare similar to
The funky interior of Red’s
what one might get at a hotel with a breakfast menu. While the hollandaise was very rich and creamy, it was just a little bit too buttery, and the butter taste was overpowering compared to the dish’s other flavours.
All in all, the food itself was of a mediocre standard, while the aesthetic appeal of the diner and the attentive, friendly dedication of the staff was admirable. As the restaurant recently opened, I suggest giving it a try in about a month, as by then all of the start-up mistakes should be worked out, and Red’s should be up and running to their full potential. The cool atmosphere and friendly staff is enough to merit a visit to their new location at least once, so check it out!
Red’s in Ramsay is located at 1101 8 St SE. For more information their website is www.redsdiner.com or they can be phoned at 587-353-1188.

SJ Fox, a celebrated author, has two women in his life: Mary Foxe, his own creation, and his wife, Daphne. This story begins when Mary, his muse, visits, but with a deeper purpose than that she usually brings: to halt Mr. Fox’s continued murder of his female protagonists. Mr. Fox brushes her concern away, calling it “ridiculous to be so sensitive about the content of fiction.” Mary’s retaliation is to turn the tables: she brings him into stories, allowing him to walk in the subject’s shoes while they struggle for authorship.
If I had to describe this novel in one word, it would be charming (albeit, strongly rivaled by “confusing”). The cover, what first drew me to Mr. Fox, is incredibly charming, the writing style is charming, the format is charming, and the characters all come to be rather charming in their own way as well.
The narrative alternates between “reality” and then the different stories that the characters find themselves inhabiting. At times it is evident who is who, but I also found myself with plenty of leeway for speculation, especially once Daphne joins into their game, as we follow the tale of two students at an academy for good husbandry, or that of an Egyptian orphan or that of two solitary foxes.
I did feel that what I expected this novel to deal with and where it began differed from where it ended. We start with Mary’s confrontation of Mr. Fox’s compulsive murder of his female characters, and when considering the allusions towards Bluebeard and Reynardine, it appears that this novel has a taken a fairly overt feminist cast. Yet this novel evolves to prod and examine the relationships between the characters, which left me wondering where Mary’s initial goals went—although perhaps it was simply to provide a catalyst for the events that then occurred and to enable a more subtle exploration of attitudes and violence towards women.
Despite any confusion on my behalf, I found Mr. Fox to be as clever and delightful as the cover suggested—and confusion does make everything more interesting anyways.
