With all this cheerful summer weather beaming down at us – not to mention any unanticipated rain storms – it is the perfect mood for ice cream or frozen food pertaining to the sort. Fiasco Gelato Food Truck offers several different kinds of gelato (rich, creamy Italian ice cream) as well as sorbetto (more of a fruit ice cream without the “milk” or “cream” part, if you will), alongside with refreshments.
Not being a great enthusiast of ice cream in general, I approached the food truck wearily. However, I must admit that the aesthetics of the truck itself – the blue and green swirls upon the cool, metallic surface – did have an inviting, chic feeling to it.
I ordered a Liege Waffle with a Mumbai Mango sorbetto topping. I thought the sorbetto enjoyable, it not tasting of artificial food flavouring or sickening sweetener, the flavour fresh and tasty. As for the waffle itself, it had a crisp coating and a full, springy core; along with the mango sorbetto, they complimented each other quite well and made a decent breakfast (yes – ice cream for breakfast).
However pleased with my order, I was quite dissatisfied with their service. The wait was irritatingly long, for the inattentive staff of the food truck had carelessly burnt a batch of waffles during their preparation. Too busy with other customers, perhaps? But still, I wouldn’t call it great customer service. To exaggerate a little, it was quite a fiasco. I was given coupons in the end; I supposed it was meant as compensation for the waiting time, but for their lack of acknowledgement of the customer, I still thought the wait was completely unnecessary. As for those only wanting gelato/sorbetto for cooling off on a hot summer day, I don’t believe it was too much of a problem. Unless one finds waiting in a long line exasperating, of course. The ice cream was enjoyed by many, it seemed.
As noted by their menu in the picture above, that particular day’s special was the Discovery Channel – no, not for eats (rather unfortunate, huh?):
