FIFA World Cup- The Final Four

On Sunday June 11th, two teams will face off in the finals of the FIFA World Cup to determine what nation will hold the title of 2010 champion. However, we still don’t know who those two teams will be.

Uruguay and Holland face off on Tuesday at 12:30, and Germany and Spain play tomorrow at 12:30. All four teams have beat tough opponents to get here, and now their toughest challenge awaits if they want to make it to the final.

Uruguay beat Ghana in penalty kicks in the quarterfinals, but many say that they do not deserve to be in the semis. In extra time, Ghana was about to score when a Uruguay defender, who was standing on the goal line, swatted the ball out of the air to save the goal. Ghana missed the resulting penalty and Uruguay went on to win the game.

Germany had an easy ride in the quarterfinals, beating Argentina 4-0. The German side is one of the favourites to win the cup, due to their mechanical efficiency and great skill.

In the quarterfinals, the Netherlands beat Brazil, who were ranked 1st by FIFA going into the tourney and are five time World Cup champions. Wesley Sneijder, their star player, has led the team to victory and is the player to watch in the semifinals.

Finally, Spain has displayed beautiful passing and ball possession skills throughout the tournament, often keeping possession for minutes at a time. David Villa has scored almost all of their goals on beautiful finishes, and will be the key player for Spain against a tough team like Germany.

The tournament gets more and more exciting as we grow closer to the final, so make sure you watch the games and join in on the excitement! For more information on the World Cup 2010 and the teams, click here.
