I could say I'm just another YAA contributor, but you don't want to underestimate the leadership power of all my fellow youth. From blogging, I've learned that writing is great, but it's versatility can only come when it provokes discussion and inquiry, and that's what we can collectively do best.
I want to rather get to know your insights, so always feel free to shoot me comments here and there.
Masks, masks, masks everywhere? New Orleans style? You must the Marda Gras Street Festival! Aug 11 was the day the hand clicker was in my palm and I was pressin’ away and greeting the patrons. Knowing I’m a bit late in the blogging game, let’s give my photos of Marda Loop and such a go! After the…
On Aug 10, the Chinatown Street Festival was back (and better than ever!) Not only did it spruce up the area vibrantly, the festival exhibited how well the collaboration went in the community after the flood. Here are my highlights: Volunteering – For starters, with an awesome t-shirt design, we recognized all the communities where the…
As a follow-up to my blog post on Calgary’s Public Art, here is an infographic uploaded recently by the City outlining the details of how the artwork find its way onto the new projects –
On the summit of the Whistler mountain lies an inukshuk, a stone figure so representative of the Inuit. A timelapse from Sherpas Cinema captured its prominence in an ever-changing environment – Watch all the other timelapses that I’ve shared with you guys here. Do enjoy as usual. 🙂
Saturday was the one and only day to #seizethesunfest. It was Inglewood’s day to showcase its charm, and the mostly-sunny weather helped with reining the crowds in, but the actual festivities did the rest. After I finished my volunteering shift there, I was able to check it out! Being a neighbourhood street festival, this meant…
The northern lights is a mystical phenomenon. Sweeping through the skies of the open grasslands, the aurora fascinates us beyond their formation in atmosphere. The alluring image is what makes this Albertan brillance especially perfect to share with you – Credits to Infocus Imagery Inc. and rewind through my timelapse series here. =)
In case you didn’t know, Youth Are Awesome is hosted on WordPress. Being a blogger means having multimedia-oriented features to convey your posts effectively, so for example, we YAA bloggers frequently turn to YouTube to share viral videos of the day to crack a laugh out of you readers. 😀 To incorporate these mediums of…
Been to Chinatown? Perhaps you’ll find some of these symbolic figurines in many shops at Dragon City Mall. Were you at a bubble tea place recently? You’ve probably met one of these cats. I’ve been at a loss of words to describe this cat that greets customers in with the charm. Is it a “fortune cat”,…
So who told you to do a review on fries when you should have taken advantage of being a Salsa Station greeter at Sun and Salsa? Well, well, don’t blame me, blame all the patrons who took all the samples! (Don’t actually do it though. :D) The turnout was amazing, so you might as well…
Now now, what is this thing you speak of? – July 20th (this Saturday) is home to Canada’s Parks Day, a commemoration of our National and Provincial Parks. Over 3% of the country’s land mass is comprised of National Parks, with the first one of course being Banff. The third National Park established in the world is…
I sure wish I had went to the Stampede Parade this year instead of having been bogged down by quadratic functions and all that Math jazz at summer school. Thankfully, I was able to contribute to THE Stampede Food Binge series and embrace some of that stampede spirit. For your viewing pleasure, here are two…
Name of Food – Chocolate-covered bacon, of course! 🙂 Where to Buy – This tent near the Stampede Corral and the Beer Gardens on the way to the Saddledome: Cost – $6 What makes it worthwhile – Perhaps it’s the occasional blend of chocolaty sweetness and the smoked bacon flavor. Yet other than that, there is just really nothing else…
Name of Food – Dessert fries! Ohnomnom! Where to Buy – The place that offeres these fries are right near the entrance of the Grandstand: Cost – $6 🙂 What makes it worthwhile – The fries themselves are relatively delicious, and as your usual stampede snack it will do well. On the other hand, however, these fries seem to…
Name of Food – Double smoked bacon wrapped cheese perogie skewer (it is indeed a long blurb!) Where to Buy – The Grill Cafe inside the Agriculture Building, which is right beside the Saddledome and these statues: What makes it worthwhile – Can I say that it was the bacon? Even though this was my second helping after…
In case you missed it on the Herald, here’s a timelapse from EarthCam atop the National Music Centre showing how the raging waters progressed to flood the intersection of 9th Avenue and 4th Street SE. With the footage captured from June 20th to 24th, this video documented the impact the floods have had on East Village and how…
