I wish I could say that my name is Cordelia or that I can recite "The Highwayman" from memory or even that I live on Prince Edward Island. While these facts are unfortunately untrue, you can probably tell by now that I am a die-hard Anne of Green Gables fan! My name is Sarena Dharshi and I can say that one of my favourite poems is Tennyson's "The Lady of Shalott" and I have indeed visited Charlottetown, P.E.I. Some other fun facts about me: I attend Western Canada High School, my favourite colour is turquoise and I am a huge Harry Potter fan. I love writing and performing spoken word poetry and I am also a blogger for The Huffington Post.
1. Canada Day: As July 1 dawns every year, I get to experience overzealous and extremely patriotic Canadians, fun parades in Canmore and Banff, fireworks and having insults aimed at me by those who have found a little too much comfort at the bottom of the bottle on this annual holiday. 2. The Heat:…
Here is just one of the countless adorable (but mischievous) macaque monkeys found at the Batu Caves located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. These little primates are not scared of humans in the least. If tourists are not careful, these furry creatures will steal just about anything from them. I even spotted one cheeky monkey with an ice cream cone!
Last summer I visited Charlottetown, P.E.I. and took some shots of the famed Confederation Bridge.
Just last year I discovered a Canadian (can I underline that word enough times?) artist who is made of pure talent and is downright incredible. This 28-year-old singer/songwriter has wowed audiences all across Canada with her songs that echo with folk, country and blues vibes and her lyrics which speak with pure honesty. Such an…
Hmmm… if you say it really slow, it almost sounds like the word naïve. Try it: P-R-O-C-R-A-S-T-I-N-A-T-I-O-N. Procrastination itself is most peoples’ vice, from adults to children. Oh and did I mention STUDENTS? Honestly, the youth of today are especially subject to it and I myself can admit to viewing procrastination as an impending doom.…
I first heard about this book from the Calgary Herald and soon learned about the hype it got in England. Knowing little about the book, other than the fact that half of Europe was going crazy for it, I decided to pick it up and give it a shot. The book is basically a journey through…
This shot was from last summer when I was visiting Nova Scotia. We took a stroll through Halifax’s beautiful public gardens and I went a little crazy with the camera. The gardens are really a perfect place to take photos, with all the lush vibrant colours to capture. With summer already upon us, I suppose I was feeling a…
When it comes to me ordering a drink from Starbucks, the menu might as well be written in Greek. Honestly, when people order, I always think to myself – “you want a tall, non-fat, no foam, whipped cream topped, caramel drizzled what?” – and the barista doesn’t even bat an eyelash. The other day, I…
Letting pre-exam stress get to you? Maybe you’re stuck in a job you can’t stand when you’d rather be out enjoying the sunshine. Perhaps you’re missing the cold, snowy, winter days (*cough*, that was a joke). Or maybe you’re like me and are starting out the summer season with the flu. On one hand, you can probably relate to…
This is a shot I took in Waterton, AB a couple Springs ago. It is taken at the top of the “Bear’s Hump Hike.” If you are ever in Waterton, I really recommend this hike simply for the amazing views it provides at the top. You can also capture a stunning shot of the entire town as…
So it’s that time of year again….Grade 12 Graduation! Words like: ‘diplomas’ and ‘prom’ are just some of the things on the minds of Grade 12 students across the city. Ok, I can’t really speak from experience as I won’t be graduating for another couple of years. My concert band however, has the honour of playing for…
On Friday May 13 I had the great pleasure of attending the A Cappella Fellas’ annual concert and the University of Calgary’s MacEwan Ballroom, supporting the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta. For those of you who don’t know, “a capella” is literally a genre of music which involves singing without instruments, meaning the singers…
One of the key aspects of photography is timing. I took this photo back in November at 7 a.m. when I was getting ready for school… I am not usually a dedicated enough photographer to wake up this early for a picture; so you could say that it was a lucky shot!
Everyone knows that the weather around here is absolutely crazy (would you believe it’s spring right now)!? It’s especially noticeable how weather is a mutual thing that binds all former and present day Calgarians together. However, it seems that this year particularly, the weather hasn’t been able to make up its mind and I think…
