Remembrance Day Poetry: Two Minutes

Do not think of blood red poppies,

Do not think of forlorn crosses,

Do not think of crying larks,

Do not think of quarrelling foe.

Think of those who gave up life,

Think of those who dared death,

Think of those husbands, sons and lovers lost,

Think of those last hugs, goodbyes and kisses blown.

Imagine loveless nights on cold hard ground,

Imagine thousands of miles between lost affection and empty people

Imagine unimaginable agony and bullet holes,

Imagine giving up your life for the greater good.

Thank soldiers who traded life for peace,

Thank brothers and sons who left severed promises back home,

Thank lovers who broke their hearts for you,

Thank husbands who gave up family for a cause worth fighting for,

Use your two minutes wisely…
