TV Spotlight of Week: Curb Your Enthusiasm

This week’s TV spotlight is on a  TV sitcom called Curb Your Enthusiasm. It stars and was created by the one of the co-creators of Seinfeld. This TV show started on October 2000 and revolves around a fictionalized version of Larry David, who he portrays himself.

In the sitcom and partially in real life, he is a retired TV writer with a seemingly perfect life, with money, friends and family and a strange tendency to get himself into trouble by constantly questioning everythingl. This is much like the character of George Costanza and the idea of the story is much like that of Seinfeld, but what I really enjoy about this show is that it seems like real life. It is played on HBO, meaning that the characters often speak profanity, which I think is the only con to the show, since it would not be permitted to be watched by all audiences. Something else I like about this show is that most of the characters keep their real-life names, which also makes the show more relateable.

Some of my favorite characters in the show are Larry David, Suzy Greene (Susie Essman) who has a very quick and explosive temper, and her husband Jeff Greene. Another favorite character is Wanda Sykes, who plays one of Larry’s wife’s good friends. She is shown as very critical to Larry’s actions and constantly thinks of Larry’s actions as racist. An example of this is shown in an episode where Larry has a dog that barks violently at African-American people and Wanda thinks that he deliberately trained the dog to attack those of colour.

This show is incredibly goofy and funny and I recommend this to anyone over the age of 14, due to the profanity and mature subject matter.

Hi there. My name's Dhruv Rajput. I am currently going to Grade 12 in Sir Winston Chruchill High School. Some of my interests are table tennis, badminton and soccer. Oh maybe I forgot to mention but, I'm addicted to comedy. TV sitcoms, stand-ups, comedy-sketch shows, you name it. I also like to play video games (surprise, surprise). I am of Indian heritage and love everything about it (except the corny movies and tv shows).
