Try Something New

As a grade 11 student in high school, I often find myself swamped with school work and extra curricular activities. Times when I find myself with an empty schedule are rare. So what do I do when I’ve been given that gift of time? I usually waste it on social media, or maybe by playing video games with my friends- bottom line is that I don’t use that time in the best way I can. And even though social media, or video games do sometimes seem like the best way to spend that time, the situation is usually that I have no more school work to do, that book on my nightstand has already been read, and I’ve finished watching that TV series on Netflix, so what else is there?

Well this is one of those great moments where you can try to do something you have never done before. Instead of scrolling through Instagram looking at re-posted memes, why not do something you have never done before? And when I say that, I don’t mean something huge, because it certainly doesn’t need to be. It can be as easy as jotting down some poetry on a piece of paper, or maybe writing a short story.

By going out and trying new things, you will be able to discover more about yourself, you may be able to find a new hobby by doing this, or you could meet some new people as well. It can seem tedious to do this type of thing, but it will get better, and it will yield some amazing results. Just take a look at yourself right now. All the hobbies that you have didn’t just appear in front of you, you went to them and picked them up. The primary reason you might not have anymore new hobbies is because you stopped going over and picking them up.

Bottom line is people get so caught up in living life, that they forget to really live it. Hobbies are what make life fun, and by trying new things whenever you can, you can be able to find some new hobbies to spend your time doing. So the next time you find yourself with nothing to do, just go out and try something new!
