Top Five Movies to Watch

Bored at home on a Saturday night with nowhere to go? No problem!  While some of these movies are not new, here are the top five movies to watch with your family, virtually with your friends, or just by yourself for self-care! Happy watching!

1. Soul:

Ever wonder what the afterlife looks like? What about a visual for the word “passion”, or even some classy jazz music? If yes, then this movie is just for you! Enjoy this relaxing movie through the well-done animation of Disney Pixar. While many movies have predictable endings, this one is unique with a surprise in the end. Disney did an outstanding job with this movie, and even incorporated a diverse cast! Try something new with Disney’s Soul! It is recommended to all ages!

2. The Pursuit of Happyness:

Enjoy this feel-good movie!

Looking for that spark of inspiration, or even some motivation? Based on a true story, follow the real-life events of businessman and motivational speaker Chris Gardener who reached his success through the hardships of raising a child through homelessness at the beginning of his career. This movie was excellent due to the underlying message of determination and strength one can gain by following their heart. It also maintained a realistic approach showing situations with the ups and downs in life that many have to face. Will Smith also did a tremendous acting job as he portrayed the role of Chris Gardner well through his use of motivational speaking!  Whether you want to feel the warmth of optimism or simply just want to enjoy the wonderful acting of Will Smith, this movie can definitely give you new perspectives and bring the feeling of hope!

 3. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle:

Jumanji

While being cooped up inside the house, many miss exploring new places and seeing new things with a tint of adventure. Enjoy this comedy with your family or even by yourself as a group of teens embark on a journey to finish their video game in order to travel back to the real world as they trapped themselves in the actual game. The cast includes Nick Jonas, Dwayne Johnson (The Rock), Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan.  If you are a fan of the show Survivor and want a little tension, this movie did a great job at building the tension while also have comedic outbursts to get a whole family laughing! While this was a sequel from the older Jumanji in 1995, this movie brought its own modern twist and brought out the adventurous side that many have missed!

4. The Fault in Our Stars:

The Fault in Our Stars

Looking for some romance or a movie full of emotions?  This movie features two teens battling cancer who met each other at their cancer support group.  Based on the book by John Green, this movie showcased the adventures the two characters faced as they shared love for the same book and travelled all the way to Amsterdam to meet their favourite author. While this movie had a sad yet hopeful ending, it stayed realistic allowing us to see that not everything in the world stays ideal. There were also many memorable quotes from this movie such as, “Without pain, we wouldn’t know joy”. There were many metaphors in this movie as well as there were some comedic parts as well.  This movie also contained a deep message suggesting that we cannot choose our faith, but we can always make the best of a terrible situation even in the darkest of times to leave our mark in the world. While a box of tissues is suggested for this movie, this movie touches almost all the emotions and never contains a single boring moment!

5. The Martian:

The Martian

For all you Sci-Fi lovers out there, here is a brilliant movie about a man who got left behind on the planet of Mars.  Played by Matt Damon, this movie showed how a man survived on Mars with a limited amount of resources to survive on this hostile planet. The other team members from NASA also tried to get him back to Earth showing teamwork. It was fascinating to see the creativity and innovation used in this movie to create an interesting storyline. If you have not seen this movie yet, it will surely grab your attention leaving you on the edge of your seat!
