The High Life

Maybe it’s because they don’t know what to spend all of their money on. Or maybe because “they won’t get in trouble since they are famous”.  Whatever the reason, it  seems that more and more celebrities are doing drugs, and even if they don’t mean to, are promoting them to their young fans. Now I am sure we can all agree that youth make up the majority of the fandoms surrounding celebrities like Justin Bieber and Lindsay Lohan who, have both received high media attention for drug usage. When the media is involved, the young fans are involved. We are exposed to drug related topics all the time, but it doesn’t really spark as much controversy as it does when someone wears something questionable on the red carpet. I believe this is because teens and kids just seem to not care as much, because drugs and alcohol are shown well, everywhere.

Celebrities are more or less, promoting the usage of drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes by making it seem more normal, because can be seen on tv and the internet so frequently.

With that said, I don’t see why these celebrities don’t just smarten up and use the attention to actually be  better role models, instead of using drugs to get more famous. I know it is probably easier said then done; maybe if the stars weren’t famous they would still do drugs because it might be  more of an addiction than the fame factor, but the least they could do is try. I am also aware that the ones who do say that they are clean and that they want to be a role model aren’t always truthful. We have no idea what all of these stars do behind closed doors, or should I say off camera.

Celebrities that have been released from rehab could use that as a learning experience to teach their fans. Just like Demi Lovato has done by speaking up about self harm and self confidence after she went to rehab for her eating disorder. Even though there is lots of room for improvement, it still helps. If only some of the other stars could come back down from the sky, and actually realize the encouragement they are showing towards teens that do drugs, because, “nothing bad has happened to me yet”. If all youth could help each other by promoting sober living, that’d be great. Unfortunately we can’t be heard as well as the ones with the cameras in front of them all day, that in my opinion, are doing the exact opposite.
