5 Things To Not Do In Math Class

Math! Probably the most popular least favourite subject of all time because:

  1. They just don’t like math.
  2. They don’t like their teacher.
  3. Whatever your reason is.

Why the love/hate relationship? We all know that one person who would date Math if it were a person. Anyway, I know that there are some concepts in Math that we would absolutely have to use in the modern day world, but when on Earth am I going to use the Pythagorean Theorem? I suppose I’ll just be walking down the street where I’ll see a giant Math question approaching me and I have to answer the question to save my life.

Here are things that you should never do in Math class, and if you do… do them at your own risk:

  1.  If the teacher is looking for someone to answer a question, DO NOT make eye contact, that’s just like buying a ticket to get called on. But on the other hand, you don’t want to not raise your hand, because they always look for the students with their hands down. But then if you don’t raise your hand often enough they’ll call on you. So I guess we are stuck in a humongous triangle.
  2.   Don’t always so the word ‘like’ so much, like who likes that like..right? See, it’s annoying. Ok, maybe not to you but I’m pretty sure it annoys some people. It bores me to death. For example: “Like, Jenny. That’s obviously so wrong! Like, I don’t know who will answer with such…like…such a like completely awful answer.” It’s just an example, but it honestly hurt me so much to write this. I’m pretty sure it wiped out half of my brain cells.
  3.  Please, please! Do not pull the fire alarm. No one wants to use their legs to go all the way outside to stand up in the cold/hot just because a fool pulled the alarm. Either way, it just causes chaos! We have to scramble out of our desks, push in our tables, create a line, go outside, the last person has to turn off the lights and close the door. The teacher has to get the ‘bag’,  do attendance to make sure everyone is there, then stand up in the unbearable heat/coldness. But to be honest, I will be ecstatic! I just skipped 20 minutes of my least favorite class! On the other hand, I suppose that the firemen/women have been contacted for no absolute reason.
  4. Sleep. I mean, you might have some trouble in your home life or you just don’t like Math. But at least fight your sleep. I don’t like Math either and I know most of the subjects that they teach us already….. but…. ok you can sleep. I don’t care, it’s not bothering me, so go ahead. But it annoys some teachers, so lightly sleep if you can.
  5. Don’t say, ‘This is so easy’ when you see that people are struggling with the questions. It annoys some people so much! Besides, you get those nasty looks from people. You know why? Because you seem oblivious to what you are saying. It puts other people down, but it also puts yourself down because you just said something that is very ‘low’.  I have taken my own advice because I’ve probably said this more than ten times last year. But that was when I was really salty.

Whether you love it or hate it, we have to do it. Hopefully, these tips will help you ease your experience in Math class:

  •  You can’t revise Math. You have to actually practice the questions.
  • Do some Math questions that you are having trouble with in your spare time. (Have assistance if needed)
  • Take notes during class and listen attentively.
  • Ask questions or ask the teacher to repeat or do over the question. (Explain why)
  • Look for patterns and connections.
  • You can start your own Math club/group or join one.
  • Be happy with your grades, if you get a ‘D’ aim for a ‘C’, etc.
