On April 27, I attended a teen-only event at the Calgary Public Library (thanks for hosting it CPL). I honestly had no idea what to expect and I was sure in for a surprise. All around the Shawnessy Library, there were stations set up for fun games and events. Not only was there a room set up with the video game Rock Band, there was a giant life sized chess set (Harry Potter anyone?), a card table and a movie going (Megamind in case you were wondering). The event turned the traditional use of a library upside down as the library echoed all afternoon, with laughter, singing (from Rock Band), and the TV. It was aimed specifically at showing teens that the Library is a fun (and not nerdy) place to be and is certainly not all about strictly no talking. Teens were also provided unlimited access to a scrumptious snacks. I have to say that the highlight of the event was a one hour art contest. Teens literarily had one hour to put together an art piece/collage/creative paper by using a plethora of art supplies provided by the library. Below are some of the contestants and some of the beautiful pieces of art.
