We’re all afraid of something, whether we’re conscious of it or not. Most of the time we let our fears and inadequacies run our lives, making us feel powerless and unmotivated. I’m not going to make the due date. There’s never enough time. I don’t have perfectly sculpted body to pull off this bikini. I missed to review one section of the chapter; I’m so gonna fail the test. I ate a Subway cookie, now I feel guilty and fat. I’m gonna throw up if I go on this ride. Blah, blah, blah…….
With this kind of mindset, we constantly provoke fear, which often results in stress, anxiety and at the wort cases— depression.
For me, it’s extremely important to face my fears because I hate living a life full of apprehension and anguish. I know life isn’t easy, but I don’t have to make it harder than it already is. Right? Life is short, and if we keep restricting ourselves from fully experiencing it has to offer because of fear, then it’s our loss.
Before facing your fears, I strongly believe that it’s important clarify first that you’re good enough, you can do this, and that you have nothing to lose. Get rid of your ego and just do it. Believe me, at the end of the day, you won’t have any regrets. These are some important benefits associated with facing our fears:
Shatters the limitations we put on ourselves
Causes us to redefine ourselves
Nourishes confidence
Helps us grow
Opens up new opportunities
Builds unexpected relationships
After-feeling of accomplishment
