Will Star-Wars Battlefront 3 meet expectations?

0

Star Wars Battlefront was first anounced at the previous E3. E3 has come up again on June 9 (as it does twice a year) and a trailer has been released.

As you can see, it was titled as a trailer but it was more of a behind the scenes peak. Anyway, that is besides the point, as it is set to be released in the spring of 2015. The game will likely be very good, because Dice is known for its FPS specialties. This game has also been hyped by fans like myself, but there is one possible downside. Last year, when Battlefield 4 was released, it was rushed by the company EA resulting in a game with such a high amount of bugs it was unplayable for some of the people who had purchased it.

The game is still in progress, has a ton of hype and if rushed by EA will be released with a number of bugs and glitches.

Youth Central’s Turnt Up Block Party

ElevatorPosterFor the past few months, my YVC sub-steering committee has been working on an awesome event. It all started with a hope to engage more Calgary youth in volunteering, and celebrate those already committed to the spirit of volunteerism. I envisioned a Lilac Fest-esk festival where youth would have the opportunity to come together to enjoy music and live entertainment, partake in fun games, and above all, be exposed to organizations within their community that will spark their passion for change. Over six months later, it’s hard to believe that such an event is going to be happening.

This coming Saturday, June 14 at Shaw Millennium Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Youth Central will be hosting the Turnt Up Block Party, the outcome of the imagination and dedication of my committee and the coordinators who helped this dream become a reality. There will be live music and entertainment, inflatable games (because let’s face it, who doesn’t love inflatable things- it’s like being at a preteen birthday party all over again!), a photo booth, food trucks, and a collection of awesome local agencies that youth can get involved in.

Throughout the entire event, live music and entertainment will be on stage, kicked off by DJs Shannon and Nino from Beat Drop, a Calgary-based electronic music producing studio and DJ school. Performances will include local bands: Coming Out Swinging, Uncommon Figures, and Deluge, alongside dance performances from Beast Machine, FloMatik, and Casa De Naz; and other entertainment for attendees will include a beat boxing session by Easy G. To conclude the event, there will be an All-Styles Dance Battle hosted by Beni J. with music provided by DJ SONIDEF, resident DJ of The Bad Girls Club YYC.

Youth will have the chance to mingle with the various organizations and visit their booths, learning more about volunteer and other opportunities around the city, and potentially even signing up on the spot with their favourites. Attending agencies include the Calgary Public Library, Distress Centre Calgary, GlobalFest, Heritage Park, Kids Up Front Calgary, Pulse Studios, Telus Spark, the Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth, the Freed Artists Society, the Salvation Army Community Services Calgary, and the Youth Employment Centre.

Once attendees have chatted with the agencies whom have piqued their interest and enjoyed some great music, they can head on over to the Block Party’s super awesome giant inflatable games, supplied by Carnivals for Kids at Heart. Youth can challenge themselves with a 50ft obstacle course, duel their friends in inflatable jousting, or play some basketball with the monster basketball hoops. Then, head on over to our photo booth with your friends and get a photo taken to commemorate the moment!

If you’re not worn out from all the bouncy awesomeness and from meeting agencies, head over to the local food trucks to grab gelato from Fiasco Gelato, fries from the Spud Mobeel, or Asian inspired burritos from Bento Burrito.

Come out and enjoy the day with friends and family at this FREE event and SPARK YOUR PASSION FOR CHANGE!

Video of the Day: The Meaning of Life

0

Have you ever asked that one, persistent question that has never been answered, even by the internet? Mine was always: What is the meaning of life? Why do I exist? What am I doing on this planet? When my mom first heard me say this, her reaction was: “Jasmine, life is very precious do not throw it away, blah, blah, blah…” She gave me a lecture on how life was important, assuming that I was feeling depressed and wanting to commit suicide or something, but I was really just asking a genuine question. To this day I still haven’t gotten a definite answer, and life does seem meaningless (not in a bad way though).  So, in search of an answer, I found an interesting video, not quite a video for people who like comedy, but insightful (if you aren’t the insightful or serious type interested in the meaning of life, this might not be the video for you). Enjoy!

Movie review: The Fault in Our Stars

Screen Shot 2014-06-08 at 9.15.29 PM

Hazel Grace Lancaster (Shailene Woodley) is just your average teenage girl, except for the fact that she is diagnosed with Stage 4 Thyroid cancer. In her 17th year, Hazel’s mother and doctor decide she is depressed, and they begin to send her to a Support Group every week. Through her support group, Hazel is introduced to a boy named Augustus Waters (Ansel Elgort), Augustus has recently suffered from cancer as well, but he has had the all clear. At first Hazel isn’t very fond of Augustus, but she is soon pulled in by his metaphorical and witty ways.  Hazel and Augustus venture together on a roller coaster ride of emotions, love, sadness, and romance, while searching for their favourite author in Amsterdam. This story shows us the beauty of two lovers living life on the edge of death.

tfios555

It seems safe to say that EVERYONE is obsessed with the book, The Fault in Our Stars. But when I heard it was going to adapted into a film, I was a bit scared. Film adaptations are either awful or they’re amazing, there is no in-between. I was scared they were going to abandon the characters, plot, and true meaning of the story, and instead make it some cheap, get to the point, Twilight disaster. But luckily, that was not the case. The way the film was adapted was totally amazing. The directors and writers captured all the great moments from the book and transferred them beautifully to the movie. The casting for this film was absolutely phenomokaycloudsenal. Woodley and Elgort both captured the true essence of Hazel and Augustus. They both had an undeniable chemistry that added to the realism of the film. The plot was great; there were no parts that had me questioning what was going on and there was a clear dynamic in the story. The soundtrack was the perfect collection of songs, it added to the great feel of the movie. As for the storyline, it was heart-wrenchingly beautiful with a touch of modest humour, the whole concept of this doomed love story was amazingly grasping. This movie broke my heart, pulled it out, and stomped all over it  touched my heart.

tfio898 Overall, if you couldn’t tell, I absolutely adored this movie. It had a great cast, plot, storyline, etc. It exceeded all my expectations, and didn’t fall short of what I wanted it to be. I would rate this movie ★★★★★. I would recommend this movie to everyone, but let me warn you, it will chop your heart up into a million pieces. And I assure you, you will fall in love with The Fault in Our Stars the way you fall asleep. Slowly, then all at once.

A leg up to our non-profits: Jessalyn Rohs’ approach with the Youth Central design

A leg up?

During this past Saturday, I was at the National tournament over at Spruce Meadows, anticipating  the “parade of nations” after the race. That was when they’d mention the winners for the design prizes of the Horses Jump to Give a Leg Up program. The number one winner would get $10,000, second place $7,000, and third $3,000.

Man, were all they stunning and creative in their own right.

Youth Central is one of the twenty not-for-profit organizations that is participating in this contest to design a fibreglass horse. It’s a continuation of  “Show Your Colours,” the community involvement program that Spruce Meadows had in previous years, but with a new spin. The design prize is just one part of the program; all of the designed horses will be placed in a silent auction online and all proceeds will go to the respective originators. Even though we didn’t win, it was sweet seeing this funding going to some of the fellow organizations that impact our community so much.

It’s one thing to be browsing through these designs, but another to be the designer behind a piece like this and ’em youth volunteers who helped paint it. I spoke to Jessalyn Rohs, who is one of our Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) team leaders and the one behind creating our organization’s horse design.

Jess

YAA: Give me your overview of the design.

JR: So, our horse design depicts Calgary built out of words that we felt represented Youth Central. We felt a black horse would stand out and represent the colour of the Youth Central logo. I decided to base off the blue sky of Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night to add an artistic element to the horse.

YAA: I noticed you had used a lot of adjectives on the buildings of the design Does that reflects perhaps what you think about Calgary?

JR: The words we chose I think represents all of Youth Central’s vision towards youth engagement in the city.

YAA: Does this artwork reflect who you are as well?

JR: This horse is not in the style of artwork I usually create; however, I really enjoyed working with the youth volunteers to paint it.

YAA: Did it take a lot of consideration to think of the design?

JR: Yes, especially at the beginning when there was “considerable discord” between the designs we wanted to initially choose: it was first between horse anatomy, a unicorn, and a prairie theme.

YAA: What is your favourite part of the horse design?

JR: My favourite part is the sky because it is colourful and was fun to paint.

YAA: Have you learned anything from embarking on such a task?

JR: I learned how to work with youth in an artistic capacity, trying to balance giving them direction while letting them express themselves as an artist.

YAA: How do you want promote your horse design?

JR: I would like to encourage everyone who was involved in horse painting to share this with their friends and family.

YAA: Are you anticipating the results of the auction?

JR: I think we are all hoping that it is a successful fundraiser overall.

It was interesting to hear her vantage point, particularly the view she has as a creator. Out of a quiet aura came this art piece, one with a special medium, the fiberglass horse. Each and every one of these horse designs together foster a stage for those like her. I think it has to take a lot of confidence for her to bring forward this idea to the stage, especially as she is not a professional artist.

Thanks to her and all the other organizations for this creativity – come the auction results September, each will receive a funding boost in what they do. In the meanwhile, I have to say that I find the analytics in the rising bids darn interesting. To bid on the Youth Central horse, click here.

Review: Arginine Resist X3 Reinforcing Leave-In Spray by L’Oréal Paris

2

Transitioning out of winter and into nice weather, I find that my hair feels a lot less dry and brittle. Although, it could be in combination with the fact that I’m using a lot of products in my hair. I’ve always had pretty good hair but I went through a phase where I dyed and used heat on it a lot, so my hair was always falling out. It never really recovered until I started using a lot of different oils and a good shampoo/conditioner, but this product was really the icing on the cake (not literally, please don’t try to eat this).

10440991_832952870067859_3047426419501472760_nThe L’Oréal Paris Hair Expertise Arginine Resist X3 Reinforcing Leave-In Spray has a very long name, but the promised results are simple. “L’Oréal Paris Hair Expertise Leave-In Reinforcing Spray contains a key ingredient: Arginine – which is essential for your hair. This amino acid is vital to help restructure fragile hair, ensuring that it is less likely to fall out. Hair is stronger, restructures from root to tip. 64% less hair fall after the 1st application. Hair becomes 2X more resistant to breakage. 95% of women saw a difference.”

There are a lot of chemical names in the ingredient list I won’t bore you with, as this isn’t an organic product, but I did do some research and you can be rest assured that there are no super-bad chemicals. That being said, it does contain parfum (or fragrance) which can trigger allergic reactions, so be aware of that if you have allergies or skin conditions.

Price: ♔♔♔♔
I can’t remember the exact price of this product, but I got it from Superstore so it wasn’t too expensive. It comes in a 200mL bottle (there are no other sizes as far as I’m concerned) and it will last you one-two months depending on the length of your hair. I know it says that it targets the roots, but I spray it up and down my entire length of hair liberally. My hair is around 16-18 inches long (root to tip) and this product has lasted me around two months using it three-four times a week. I’d say that this is a good price for the results that it yields.

10387256_832952823401197_2656169188701356068_nSmell: ♔♔♔♔
I usually have a problem with overly-scented products due to my sensitive nose, but the smell of this product is actually quite pleasant. Pleasant, but strong. Try to hold your breath, keep your mouth closed and spray away from your face. I use a lot of different hair products, so the scent of those overpowers this spray and I can’t say for certain whether or not the smell of this product lingers on your hair. Even if it does, it’s a good smell, so don’t worry too much about it.

Application: ♔♔♔♔
You all know that I’m a weakling by now, so me giving the application a full score means that it’s so easy a 7-year-old could do it. The product does come with a cap (which I obviously lost) so you can store this away without worrying about it spraying everywhere. The nozzle does not get stuck at all and the product comes out in a very nice mist. You are supposed to spray this on damp hair, meaning that you can’t actually tell when your hair has been coated. For me, I just spray until I can’t handle the scent anymore. (Wow, I am so professional.)

Effectiveness: ♔♔♔
This product has worked very well for my hair as it doesn’t fall out as much anymore. My hair feels a lot stronger, fuller, and overall just healthier after using this product. I think it has also helped in part for my hair to grow. My hair grows at an extremely slow rate and it hasn’t been this long in years. The only reason that it does not have a full rating is because I can’t be 100% sure that the results I’m seeing are solely due to this product.

Overall: ♔♔♔♔♔
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is dealing with hair loss, or just wants stronger and healthier hair in general. It’s as easy as spraying it in after a shower and this product’s available at probably every drugstore and grocery store. I will definitely continue to use this product to maintain my hair’s fullness and texture.

9 moronic first world problems

0

Sure, we will live in a country of prosperity, but are we letting the greed get to our heads? Are we ungrateful for what we got? I believe so… we are so ungrateful that we have first world problems, which are quite insignificant compared to issues like global warming, poverty, cancer, etc. We are reaching a new level of low, so selfish that we can’t see anything other then our convenience.

truth

To prove this I would like to share with you nine moronic first world problems:

#1. Uggggh! I just got the iPhone 5s and they just announced the release of the 6 next month! Now I have to go back to Verizon and wait in line again.

#2. My Wifi just went down for 1 hour…  #FirstWorldProblems #FWP

#3. I hate my job, but I make too much money to justify finding a new one.

#4. I changed my email password and now I have to re-enter it individually into my desktop mail app, iPad, and iPhone

#5. I’m hungry… but not for any of the food in my house.

#6. I have too much chips for my dip, but if I open more dip, I’ll have too much dip for my chips.

#7. My iPhone fell out of my pocket and cracked my iPad.

#8. My oldest son is watching the 50-inch TV; my youngest son is playing Xbox on the 45-inch TV; and my daughter is watching a blu-ray on the 40-inch TV; so I have to watch my TV show on the 10-inch iPad.

#9. My Mercedes has heated seats but doesn’t have a heated steering wheel and it was really really cold yesterday.

Honestly, how ridiculous can we get as a society? People don’t have the luxuries we do, yet we still don’t consider what we have as enough. We want more, but why? Materialistic things like cars, iPads, iPhones, etc., don’t give you internal satisfaction. Like they say you can’t buy happiness. We need to stop being self-centred and instead have gratitude for everything and everyone in our lives.

Many people wonder why they are not happy after having two degrees and a job that pays great money, I say it is because we aren’t satisfied with what we’ve got. We always find something to complain about, we are a society of pessimists. Time to be positive about life people! Wake up, you are living a beautiful life… time to cherish what you have, because who knows if you have a tomorrow.

Jasmine K.

DO IT YOURSELF PROJECT

Crafts are always fun, especially when you can do them yourself with a few, simple steps and materials that can be found normally around your home. These are a compilation of some of my favourite summer DIYs.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Want an easy, healthy and cool summer treat? Try these fun and easy recipes that you can serve any time in summer and anywhere.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Frozen Fruit Skewers

grapes_scewers

Materials:

– Grapes and bananas or other assortments of fruit

– Skewers

– Other sweet seasonings you might want to add

Procedure:

Take your fruit (I personally recommend grapes as one of the must haves partly because of the frozen texture inside and because of the cool taste) and put them onto your skewers. Freeze them in your freezer for at least 30 minutes and then they are ready to serve!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Orange Creamsicles
6a00d8358081ff69e20192aa3c30f6970d-800wi
Materials:
– 4-5 oranges (8 oz. orange juice)
– 2 1/2 cups vanilla ice cream
– 1 tablespoon orange zest
– 1 cup heavy whipping cream
Procedure:
“First extract the juice from the oranges. If you’re too busy and important to stand around juicing oranges, you can use store bought orange juice. Geez. Blend together the orange juice, ice cream and zest until smooth. Pour into popsicle molds, but leave the top 1/4 empty. Using a whisk, or a stand mixer with a whisk attachement whip the heavy whipping cream until soft peaks form. You don’t want firm whipped cream, just firm enough that it won’t too quickly seep into another liquid. Spoon the whipped cream on top of the creamsicles, add popsicle sticks and freeze overnight. You can use any kind of fruit juice you prefer. I think next time I might try grapefruit. 🙂 These are a fun snack to serve at a backyard picnic party or by yourself in front of the TV watching Game of Thrones. Either way. I think both options sound just perfect. ” – Quoted from: http://www.abeautifulmess.com/2013/05/homemade-creamsicles.html
Have a large T-Shirt lying around that you don’t need and don’t want? Turn it into fun, spring blouse, or into a simple prom dress! Here are some fun tutorials and DIYs that I compiled:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

DIY T-Shirt Strapless Dress

diy-clothing-refashion-ideas-9

An explanation:

First, the materials needed for this project are:

– A really stretchy, long T- shirt

– Possibly a pair of scissors

– Sewing equipment

– Bobby pin

First, you must find a really large T-shirt that has a large collar that can fit around your upper body. If you don’t have any T-shirts with large collars, you can cut the collar so that it fits you (*Note: If you have cut the collar, sew the opening so that it is somewhat circular will help make the dress look more decent). Then, put the T-shirt on like you would a dress,leaving the sleeves under your arms and the collar of the shirt above your chest. Take each arm of the T-shirt and tuck them behind the collar of the shirt so that they overlap. To secure the dress in place, take a bobby pin to secure the sleeves onto the collar, take the dress off, sew it and you have your DIY dress! 🙂

DIY Short Sleeve Dress

What materials you need:

– Form fitting long t-shirt

– Scissors

Video of the Day: The Fault in Our Stars Movie Premiere

With the movie adaption of John Green’s critically acclaimed book, The Fault in Our Stars, releasing in theaters this Friday, I thought it appropriate to share the vlogging video of the author at the movie premiere. I have to say, John Green is still as awesome and comedic as ever, and oh so relatable in awkwardness. That being said, who else is going to watch The Fault in Our Stars movie sometime this weekend? I’ll be, for sure. If you’re new to this and have no idea what the hype is about, read the book first, okay? (See what I did there, TFIOS fans?)

Restaurant Review: Mango Shiva

Recently, for my brother’s graduation lunch, we went to Mango Shiva on Stephen Avenue. The walk from the parking at Banker’s Hall to the restaurant was not that long, especially in good weather.

The restaurant itself had a warm ambiance with many lights, mirrors, and warm tones. It is semi-formal to casual and great for lunch when there aren’t too many people. It tends to be busier in the evenings. The seating arrangements were a bit of a problem because we all sat on a sofa that stretched through the length of the room, and we were a bit too close to other people.

IMG_20140529_134722

My family and I agreed the food was absolutely fantastic! For appetizers, we ordered the organic arugula and goat cheese salad. Although it had a bit too much arugula, the fresh grapefruits and oranges made up for it by providing a citric kick. We also ordered the mango lassi, which I definitely would order again and again.

I would highly recommend getting the tandoori paneer flat bread, which is a nice alternative for pizza lovers like me. The mango chutney paired well with the savory toppings.

IMG_20140529_135049

For dessert, we ordered the chocolate chai lava cake. The vanilla bean gelato paired with it was the best part of the dish. It wasn’t overly sweet because they added dark chocolate.

Chai
Chai

The part that fell short for all of us was the not-so-great service. Our waitress was talking to one of the customers for over 15 minutes while we waited for the dessert menu. We also had to wait a very long time to get our food, so I would suggest going for the buffet, which has a wide variety of dishes and dessert.

Overall, I would give this restaurant 4/5 for the ambiance, 5/5 for the food, and 2.5/5 for the service.

My Pros and Cons of Being a Writer

Being a Writer 2

Above are words that describe my personal experience with being a writer.

As much as I wish being a writer was perfect, all passions come with a certain sacrifice. There are times when everything feels right, but other times when I ask myself: Is this what I should truly be doing?

On May 2014, I was awarded Blogger of the Month. This was a great honour for me and affirmation that hard work does pay off. It wasn’t long before I seriously considered: Should I become a writer for a job?

 Dream

Dream

It is a part of human nature to fear being forgotten or to live a purposeless life. Writing is a way to make my mark on this world. Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of one day publishing a book. I likely won’t become the next Shakespeare, but I do dream of my work living on and continuing to impact others. There is a timeless aspect of writing: once it is published, then the story leaves the author’s hands and is now a part of human history. It’s powerful to understand that the actions of one person can affect those they may not have even met.

Not a “Real” Job

Real Job

My parents were immigrants and they worked tirelessly so that I could have a better life than they did. My family primarily consists of teachers, doctors and engineers so I am pressured to go in similar paths. They say that it’s just something I should do for pleasure, but not as a serious job. I respect their opinion and they do bring up some of the potential problems of going into the writing field.

Tragedy

Tragedy

It’s an unavoidable part of life to experience heart-break, loss and suffering. However, it is often this pain that becomes the driving force to pour my emotions out onto paper.  It’s a tough process, because I am forced to relive those feelings as I’m writing. In the end, I feel relieved to let it all out. Tragedy is something that all artists show a dose of in their work.

Expression

Expression

We all have our own special story that we long to share with others. I say what I want to say, because it is part of who I am. It is powerful and liberating as a writer to write freely and tune out other’s opinions. There will always be someone who agrees and disagrees with me, but what matters is that I am not lying to myself. Life is too short to hide who you truly are.

Loneliness

Loneliness

Unlike other professions, writing is one where spending time alone is mandatory. I already spend hours living in my own world, lost in thoughts. Loneliness can become a real problem if one stops interacting with others and invests all their energy towards their work. It’s an affliction that I struggle with: how do I balance the outside world with my internal world? This is something definitely gained through experience.

Connecting with Others

Connecting

The greatest reward for me as a writer is knowing that my writing was able to impact even one person. Contrasted by the time a writer spends alone, it is reassuring to know that someone else relates to my words. I believe if you have something to say, then there’s someone who will listen.

Starving Artist

Starving Artist

It’s an unfortunate reality that many people who pursue writing have a hard time making a living. I’ve heard it’s similar to being a teacher: you do it because you love it, because you won’t get paid much from it. I know one thing for sure: I don’t want my love for writing to turn into waiting for the next paycheck. I write because I enjoy it, but sometimes that’s not enough in the adult world.

 Recognition

Recognition
The goal is to someday make it big, to become well-known, right? It’s a double-edged sword. It feels great to finally be recognized, but that may lead down a dark path. One must not forget their humble beginnings and let greed corrupt their mind. Fame also comes with the loss of privacy now that you’re in the social spotlight. It’s all a trade-off, but I must keep in mind why I started: because I love writing and I want to help others.

Wisdom & Understanding

WisdomI engage myself in a personal conversation when I write. I reflect on my daily experiences, whether good or bad. I ask myself: what do they mean to me? Why is it important? When questioning myself like this, I am able to extract the value of day-to-day activities. I realized that I leave each writing session a little bit wiser and with a better understanding of myself and others.

 Love & Hate

Love and HateI’ve gradually realized that the world is as perfect as I once thought. Hearing about war, poverty, injustice – all this hate makes me realize the importance of small acts of love. A writer has the power to communicate these ideas through their work. Personally, I try to share my morals with living a better life to others.  In this hateful world, we all need a bit of love.

 Identity

IdentityEach person’s identity will continually be redefined as time passes by. Just because I’m a writer doesn’t mean that’s all I’ll ever be. Contrary to the question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I believe that “I don’t know” is an acceptable answer. One needs to explore different facets in life to see what really resonates with them. Don’t be afraid to try new things, because they’ll all contribute to creating a more well-rounded individual.

Conclusion

I am still young and in the process of discovering who I am. My experience after joining the Youth Are Awesome team has been a valuable one. I have been able to reflect on the pros and cons of this profession. I know that if I were to pursue this field, then I will have people and experience to back me up. No real job will be easy and success comes from dedication. For now, I will continue to learn, share and of course, have fun. If you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, then there’s better ways to be spending your time.

What do you think of this article? Do you agree or disagree with any of my points, or think that I missed anything? I’d love to hear your feedback in the comment section below or on my Twitter.

Unconventional ice cube tray uses

0

There are many handy uses for ice cube trays especially when it is summer. Instead of making ice cubes you can put the trays to several other uses. I actually some of these uses and they make my life much easier. From organization to fancy seed bombs the ideas are endless. Try to challenge yourself this summer to find as many uses for ice cube trays as you can!

FROZEN HERBS

If you are like me, I’m sure you love to grow your own herbs in your house. In the winter of course you wouldn’t know what to do with them because the don’t flourish as well as they do in the summer. The fix for this is to fill your ice cube trays with olive oil, and the chopped herbs, and then freeze. It’s literally three simple steps, and it will keep your herbs ready to go all year round! This is just one of the many great uses. You are now ready to take on all the great dishes in the world.

JEWELLERY ORGANIZATION

This may seem a bit out of the ordinary, but trust me it keeps your little earrings from getting lost all over the house. Particularly your stud earrings! Due to the fact that there are different compartments it allows you to see all your earrings clearly, without you having to dig through a pile of them. On those school mornings finding a pair of earrings won’t be a hassle, and no one has to know you store your jewellery in a ice cube tray. Not only with this idea keep you from getting late; you can also stack the ice cube trays to optimize your space.

SEED BOMBS

I’m sure after you learn how to make seed bombs you wouldn’t want to turn to old-school gardening again. Also these seed bombs make great presents for anyone who wants to establish a lovely and flourishing garden. To make seed bombs you will first have to purchase seeds. Scrunch water soaked newspaper into a ball of pulp, add the seeds of your choice inside, allow it to strain through a tea towel, after you pack the seed newspaper pulps into a ice cube tray. You do not freeze them, instead you leave them out to get dried completely. After making one, try another, the shapes are endless!

SUNBURN CUBES

If you are going on a summer vacation to some place hot I’m sure you want to know this trick. For somewhat instant relief from sunburn, fill an ice cube tray with one part water and one part aloe vera. The aloe can be a store bought gel, or you can take it from a fresh aloe vera plant. Now when you find yourself sunburnt and in pain just pop these babies out and apply to the area. Aloe has many healing properties thus it is ideal to use on sunburns. In addition the cold sensation of it in frozen form will help cool down the burn.

Who knew ice cube trays could be so helpful? Next time you find yourself stuck in a situation think about how ice cube trays might help. Furthermore there are endless ways to use ice cubes trays on the internet, but these are just a few ways which I found were most unique and creative. Challenge yourself and make your ice cube trays serve a purpose other than just making ice. Do you already use your ice cube trays other ways? What will you do next?

Netflix Obsessions: G.B.F

Although this movie is not a “Netflix Original”, I discovered it on Netflix with my sister and decided to watch it, and instantly fell in love with movie.

The plot of this movie is simple. Three of the high school’s most popular girls, Fawcett, ‘Shley and Caprice, are looking for G.B.F (Gay Best Friend), because it is the latest trend. However they don’t know anyone who could fit the role, but when word gets out that a student named Tanner is gay, the girls quickly compete to see who can win him over. Although at first sight, the synopsis sounds highly offensive, suggesting that gay people are merely accessories for teenage girls to show off, the movie teaches us a message that is the complete opposite. The message in the film is that you should not let anyone own you, and you should not try to own anyone else. It teaches us that we shouldn’t see gay people as accessories or the latest trend, but treat them like you would treat a straight person; like a human being.

One of my favorite things about this film is that many of the cast members, even the director, are part of the LGBTQ community. It helps get the message across to stop promoting “gay best friends”. I think it makes it more personal that many cast members are in this community because it shows that maybe they are offended by this term as well. Yes it is completely okay to have a best friend who is gay, however you shouldn’t call them a “gay best friend”, you should simply refer to them as “my best friend”.

Another thing I like about this movie is its simplicity and cheesiness. If you are looking for a high quality film with amazing acting, I do not recommend this movie. The jokes are painfully funny, and the acting isn’t anything extraordinary But that’s the thing, if this movie was made with complicated lines, hidden meanings and played by extremely famous actors, the message would be lost. In the movie G.B.F, the message is clear and concise, everything about the high school they go to is stereotypical, so the message gets across simply and in a relateable way.

If you are looking for a light hearted, feel good movie to watch on a rainy day or a Sunday afternoon, I highly suggest G.B.F. It will make you laugh, smile and cry all at once! Plus you can watch it right now on Netflix, how awesome is that?

“People confuse the source of their happiness. They become temporarily happy when they get a new car, or a new house, or a new marriage. And they think that they are suddenly happy because of this new thing in their life. In reality, they are happy because for a brief moment, they are without desire. But then soon another desire comes along. And the search continues.”
