In People Like Us, the storyline revolves around a struggling business man, Sam (Chris Pine), who was forced to fly to Los Angeles when his estranged father passed away. Requested to fulfill his father’s final will, Sam was obligated to deliver $150,000 to a sister, Frankie (Elizabeth Banks), whom he was never informed of. Due to Sam’s crashing career, the overwhelming temptation to keep the money was deeply alluring. As Sam attempted to decide what to do, a relationship started to develop between him and his new sibling, as well as his young, yet rebellious nephew (Michael Hall D’Addario).
After attending the advanced screening of this movie with Elena, I would truly recommend this movie to everyone, as we all may be able to relate to the plot. Instead of being a summer romance film, People Like Us well portrayed the complications and the unbridled love that exists within a family, and demonstrates the role of the family in overcoming the obstacles in life. People Like Us also shows the inevitable helplessness and sacrifices made by a person when their family is threatened. The comedy that is ingrained within the film may lead you to mirthful laughter, while a heartwarming scene may provoke the tears that had slowly welled up in your eyes through the movie to fall.
Overall, People Like Us is a very intriguing and enjoyable film to watch. It is truly emotionally touching and heartwarming. If you are tired of the usually summer blockbuster selections, People Like Us would be a good choice of movie, and a valuable experience! However, be prepared to have swollen eyes and a runny nose when you walk out of the theater.
And a great thanks to Kids Up Front for this amazing opportunity!!! 🙂
