All right, all right…
I get it. This may sound crazy, but boxed cake mix is one of the best things to have in your kitchen. Like many other bakers, I used to believe that cake mix pales in comparison to cakes made from scratch. When done right, this is simply not true. Boxed cake mixes are a great way to make fluffy, light cakes in less time and at a fraction of the cost of scratch. Without further ado, here are four tips for how to make the perfect cake from boxed cake mixes every time.
1. Add extra eggs
Most boxed cake mixes call for two or three eggs. Adding one or two extra makes for a richer and moister cake.
2. Substitute water for milk
Boxed cake mixes will always call for a liquid. Using milk instead of water adds fat, improving flavour.
3. Substitute oil for melted butter
Doubling the amount of oil a recipe calls for and replacing it with butter is a great way to add rich flavour, and make it taste more homemade.
4. Add extracts and flavouring
One of the greatest downfalls of boxed cake mixes is that they often lack flavour. A great way to add a kick into your cake mixes is by adding extra flavouring or extracts! (Ex. Adding extra vanilla extract in a vanilla cake).
I hope you give these tips a try!
