Health problems arising from radiation

With the possibility of the nuclear meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, many are asking about how nuclear radiation leads to the presence of diseases within the human body. This curiosity was echoed by my recent viewing of video of the experiences of the survivors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings: White Light/Black Rain. So I looked into it and found an article by CBC discussing the effects of nuclear radiation on the body and the development of diseases.

The article can be found at: http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/story/2011/03/15/f-radiation-sickness.html

I enjoyed reading it for the information and it really hit home how powerful nature really can be. The earthquake caused massive damage in the elements both in the nuclear fuel and byproducts that can wreak havoc on a global scale for generations to come. This really emphasizes the destructive power that nature holds both in ways which mankind isn’t involved (earthquakes) and ways in which mankind is involved (nuclear power plants). It just shows that no matter how far man thinks he’s progressed, nature should always be respected both for her beauty and her capability to induce widespread destruction.

My prayers and best wishes go out to the victims of the Japan earthquake and it’s side effects. May those who have passed away rest in peace. Also let us hope the situation with the nuclear reactors can be contained and resolved lest we all are subject to one nature and man’s most horrific destructive forces: Widespread Nuclear Radiation.
