Top 10 reasons why Frozen is a fantastic film

SPOILER ALERT!

Now that that’s been addressed: if you noticed the joke in the title, two points to you.

Disney’s latest Frozen film becomes a new fan favourite – and for good reason too. Frozen is a refreshing film that steps away from the traditional Disney plotline, and perhaps this is why it became such a hit. Rather than the traditional man-saves-princess and a suffocating love story, Frozen focuses more on familial love and an endearing subplot. Princess Anna goes on an icy adventure to save her sister Queen Elsa, who has run away from Arendelle into a kingdom of ice-solation.

Listed below are the top 10 reasons Frozen is a fantastic film:

10. The animation – I think this one speaks for itself.

9. Sven – he’s adorable. Particularly when he was dancing in the trees (right before they meet Olaf).

8. Duke of Weselton – red herring anybody? His hair may be floppy, but his dance moves are fantastic.

7. Anna – how relatable is she? Disney has addressed the fact that women don’t sleep like supermodels and wake up with perfect hair – our hair is a bird’s nest and we drool. She’s awkward when she meets Hans – I’d be awkward too if I met a gorgeous prince.

6. Hans and Anna – I just really love the fact that they addressed the issue of MARRYING A GUY YOU JUST MET. Ariel and Snow White, I’m looking at you.

5. Queen Elsa’s transformation – speaks for itself. I fell in love with her hair, and now I’m seeing the purple eyeshadow/cranberry lip EVERYWHERE. Talk about a beauty icon.

4. Olaf – I honestly thought I was going to hate him. He was your typical sidekick who was only there to provide comedic relief. While Olaf certainly did that, he had his wonderful shining moments that made me tear up a little*.

3. The soundtrack – from “Let It Go” to “For the First Time in Forever”, the soundtrack was beautifully done. Thumbs up to Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell. (watch Disney’s “Let It Go” here!)

2. Prince Hans of the Southern Isles – we all hate this guy. I have never met a Disney villain I hated as much as Hans – and I think I speak on the behalf of everyone in the theatre when I say we all hate him. But that’s the point – he was a genius villain. He wasn’t prince charming – he was evil! Can anyone say biggest plot twist ever?

AND FINALLY

1. The love story – it’s not your typical prince charming love story. In the end it wasn’t true love’s first kiss – it was Anna sacrificing her life to save her sister. Plus she managed to find “the one” on her way to save her sister – two birds with one stone.

Of course there are so many other things that I loved about this film, but I’m on my way to watching it (again).

*Understatement. I bawled my eyes out.
