Dragons are mythical creatures that have appeared in legends for many generations. They typically take on the form of a giant reptilian creature with sharp teeth and claws, wings, and of course the ability to breath fire. In some tales dragons are seen as the villain in which a knight or other brave hero is sent to slay them, while in other stories dragons are seen as protectors. However, in some parts of the world dragons are also considered hoarders of treasure that protect their precious jewels and will harm anyone that threatens to steal them. All over the world there are many different characteristics of dragons, but the real question is, do they exist?
Dragons, being lizard creatures, are rumored to be related to dinosaurs due to them being large in size and possessing wings like other flying reptiles such as the pterodactyl. If this was true though, how come real dragon skeletons have yet to be discovered by archaeologists, and on top of that how is it possible that dragons could breath real fire? It’s simple enough to say that dragons might have existed in a different era than the dinosaurs have, probably more recent if stories of them were told during the middle ages. I personally believe that if they did live thousands of years ago the Greeks or even the Egyptians would have recorded their existence.
Also the fact that dragons could breath fire may sound crazy, but at the same time not entirely impossible. Scientists have tested special materials called pyrophoric materials which ignite when spontaneously exposed to air. It might have been possible that dragons had a special internal body organ that allowed them to produce a similar material within their systems that could be forced out at will resulting in flames emanating from their bodies.
Not to mention there’s also the theory that dragons do exist, but aren’t part of this world, instead they live on another plane. A plane is basically like another world except it exists within our world but is invisible to all our senses. People also believe that other mythical creatures exist on this plane, and have rarely been seen by human eyes. This theory though is a pretty long stretch because it may be a bit of a challenge to find proof that another world actually exists, but one can always hope.
Overall I find dragons to be a fascinating type of species, whether real or not. Based on facts and documented evidence I find it hard to believe they really existed in real life, but I for one have no right to judge that. People will always have their own opinions on myths, legends, and folklore, and I do believe in a lot of crazy things myself. Even some authors out there who right about supernatural fiction in their books such as Heather Brewer somewhat believe there are beings that exist out there that humans don’t know about. So until dragons decide to come out of the den, the theory of them remains unknown.
