3 Things for Calgary was a campaign launched by mayor Nenshi approximately a year ago to make Calgary a better place. I think when a lot of times these events or programs take place, the public would take notice for one or two days and then forget about it. We are – to different extents of course – all guilty of this. Therefore, it’s important to keep updated on community events. It’s important, once in a while, to step back from our busy lives and think beyond our own scope, to think of others, to think for others who are less fortunate and need our compassion.
The Creativity In Action (CIA) Club at my school has been fundraising for the Alberta Children’s Hospital by painting iPhone 4 cases and reaching out to our communities, whether within our school or beyond, about our cause. The goal was to buy $1000 worth of toys for the patients at the hospital for the Christmas season. Unfortunately, we did not quite reach our goal as of this month. However, members from our club did go on a shopping spree for toys recently, ending up with our final product:
Yes, A LOT of toys! (Trust me, the cashier was overjoyed when she saw the work she had ahead of her). The number is still in the counting as we finish making our craft kits and colouring pages to be sent to the hospital along with the toy mountain. As a club, we would like to thank everyone who participated in our cause. It’s been really wonderful knowing that these youthful patients at the hospital will have something to enjoy over the winter holiday. We hope to continue this project for the future and inspire others to participate in a cause they are passionate about!
