Chaos Theory

There is a scientific theory called “chaos theory”, which envisions that every single action, choice, and circumstance that you have ever encountered has led you up to this moment. That every little thing, no matter how small it is, could cause enormous repercussions. Like a butterfly’s wingbeat can cause typhoons, chaos theory dictates everything. It has led you up to reading this article, and it’s led me up to writing it. We think that oftentimes our lives are meaningless because we haven’t achieved something world changing, when our existence changes the world every day. When we consider the grand scheme of things and then think to ourselves that we are simply a speck of dust on this plane of existence, we must remember that one spec of dust can cause an avalanche.

The ability to change things in the world lays with our own sense of being. If we take the ideology that we are meaningless and thus cannot change anything, we are living the life that has been written out for us. We create a negative sense of thinking. When we start believing that we cannot change anything, we won’t change anything. The placebo effect runs deep in this ideology of nothingness, we can only do what we set our minds to achieve and thus we can only do what we know and what is best for us as individuals.

Beliefs

When we believe we can do nothing, we will do nothing. Faith is a deciding factor in many of our own issues. The more faith you have, the more likely things will work out. But the more faith you have, the higher the chance of being disappointed. At the end of the day, life is a gamble, whether we win or lose, we have been forced to play, so needing to set ourselves up with the highest chances possible is extremely important. These high chances only come when we believe in our sense of being and our own ability to change things.

The Butterfly Effect

The counterfactual of this ideology is actually believing in the butterfly effect. That one thing leads to another and eventually, you get to the outcome that you have, and with a single flap of a butterfly’s wings, you could have been led to something different. Even if we think of the greatest moment of our lives, there are a million prerequisites to it actually happening. These can stem back to even a single red light that we were stopped at, changing the fate of the universe and thus changing our fate.

In order to make a change, make a difference, we need to start small. We cannot begin saving the world if we don’t believe in our own ability to do things. The notion in which we believe in things that are not, and disbelieve in things that are, is often how our own society already runs. This notion that we cannot change is what will continue to drive us. To be the best person possible, believe not in the butterfly effect, but instead- believe in those around you. Believe in yourself. Believe in others. Trust each other- it is through this that we, together, grow.
