It's unbelievably amazing how writing autobiographical information can lead to a life-threatening (not to mention eye-twitching) case of writer's block! This leaves me no choice but to do so in the most uncreative way one could proceed: in lists. Although, enumerating facts is arguably the most logical route, as Sherlock Holmes may express. It, however, does not wholly illustrate my passion for visual arts, travel, and - as speculated - my tendency to live in novels of brilliance. My quiet nature could rival that of Holmes when he withdraws into his depths, but my wonderment toward metropolitan cities such as London and Paris parallels Nick Carraway's as he plunges into the world of The Great Gatsby. But enough ranting about oneself! Please enjoy our articles and do not hesitate to leave your thoughts underneath - we love to hear from you!
The whispers. The rumouring stories. The undeniable facts. The news titles: another takes his life. It’s all a shock at first; the occurrence of death is not an experience we encounter every day. Nor is it something we want to face. A few weeks later? How do you feel about that person who’s suddenly missing from the…
It’s almost that time of the year, everyone is looking forward to, but sometimes can find themselves hopelessly lost and utterly bored. It’s paradoxical – yet no one can deny it: summer can be monotonous sometimes. What better time to enjoy some well-written literary works, then? Contemporary teenage fiction can be compelling, though it is…
Here comes June, the month of torturous final exams, the month of enthusiastic, long-anticipated good-byes to the monotony of school; yet, it is a month of change and perhaps, with that, comes the aching of one’s heart. Whether it is transition into a new academic school year at the same school, transition from junior high to…
Over this spring break, I’ve had the most wonderful – most awe-inspiring, phenomenal, stupendous, extraordinary, and breath-taking (for “wonderful” simply isn’t enough to describe the awesomeness that had befallen upon me, so I take to abuse the thesaurus) – experience: school trip to LONDON and PARIS! I’ve always loved to travel and sight-see, but the trip…
“All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s (or thing’s) mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time’s relentless melt.” – Susan Sontag The advancement in Photoshop technology has definitely changed the definition of photography. I personally had…
With our cities so well lit during nighttime, it’s hard to appreciate the world beyond our busy lives. What better else than electricity to light the way to success on a late study night? What would we do without the soft glow of our cell phones that enables us to connect to those who we…
If you’re looking into buying a new camera, read Part 1 of this series for advice on choosing the brand of the camera. This post will explore the two different types of cameras: digital, or film? In our digital era, it may be very tempting or reflexive to choose the digital option. After all, what…
We hear warnings against fast food and junk food all the time – but it’s not like they’re going to blow us up like balloons, right? A bottle of sprinkles with a tub of ice cream once in a while won’t hurt… This video really put into perspective just how unhealthy we are. Though it may…
Upon reading Alice’s post on her new Canon Rebel T4i, I thought I’d pitch in my own experience with cameras. I’m very fortunate – or spoiled – to have a camera-fanatic-dad (yes, this is the first step to getting the right camera: having a family member who will buy one for you so that you…
So you think college and major scholarship applications are tiresome – try doing eleven at the same time! Not that anyone enjoys ranting about his or her life and how amazing they are for hours on end, but having a super paranoid dad who knows nothing about your academics and school life insisting that you…
It’s just a little over a month into the new year – how are your I’m-going-to-be-healthy-in-2013 plans holding up? As unfortunate as it is, it’s extremely easy to slouch at home and convinced oneself that food is the true love of one’s life. The treadmill or stairs will be, well, what treadmill and what stairs?…
In our busy lives, we may quite easily forget who we are, what we’re aiming for, what makes us happy. Perhaps the most devastating part is that we forget our mortality. Sure, there are complaints about discomforts here and there, but we live as if we are immortal creatures: microwaved food feasts, parties (homework inclusive)…
Japanese + Italian. Yes, that’s right! While it may sound a little odd at first (I mean, Asian with European food – that’s almost like pouring spaghetti sauce on a bowl of rice and topping it with wiggly octopus tentacles protruding from raw meat balls), Carino is seriously one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Calgary. Though…
Have you ever felt the need to check your Facebook newsfeed every ten seconds? Or tweet about whatever you’re doing every few minutes? With the lure of social media – whether it is Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, or the countless other platforms – it’s extremely easy to get caught up with the online world of…
“I suppose in the end, the whole of life becomes an act of letting go, but what always hurts the most is not taking a moment to say goodbye.” Life of Pi could be said to be the perfect embodiment of today’s culture of technology and the interplay between this technology and our humanity.…
