A Gen Z’s Guide to “Okay Boomer”

A Quick History on Baby Boomers

What are Boomers?

The term “boomer” is in short of Baby Boomers,  individuals born between 1944 and 1964, which is after the World War II.

Collectively, boomers were born more privileged than any other generations, especially because they were born at the right period of time. The world was just recovering from the impact of the war; but the families with children were striving with the education and housing provided by the government. Boomers are known to find faults within the current world and with the  Generation Zs..

“Okay Boomer”

“Okay Boomer” is a phrase going viral on media.

It was first used when a Twitter user named Jonathan Williams created a song pouring out all his annoyance towards the older generation that can be related by several people. This expression is used to:

  1. mock outdated mindsets and narrow-minded opinions.
  2. criticize stereotypes based on gender, social status, background, etc.
  3. defend yourself against the fierce condemnation of boomers.

A few occasions to use this phrase:

“Why are kids these days so sensitive to everything? When I was you age, I rolled in Poison Ivy and ate wild boars!”

“Okay Boomer.”

“Whyareyoualwaysonyourphone-“

“Okay Boomer.”

“I worry about the young fellows these days, when I was your age-“

“Okay Boomer.”

“Why does your friend have a pierced nose and a half-cut Tshirt??”

“Okay Boomer.”

“You kids are always playing video games! When I was your age, we always went outside to-“

“OKAY BOOMER.”

Unsurprisingly, one could take this phrase offensively. So make sure to say this to only the friendliest of boomers!

(I am speaking from experience.)
