On April 17, the Big Four building became home to thousands of youth interested in jobs and employers interested in youth.
The event was created to help 15 to 24 year olds to connect with employers hiring in the Calgary area. The Hiring Fair creates (and created) a great environment for youth to meet face-to-face with about 80 potential employers, and gave youth an opportunity to talk about what skills and abilities they to potential employers. The fair featured more than 5,000 full-time, part-time and seasonable jobs for which the potential employers are hiring. It was also a part of Youth Week Calgary 2012.
It was a great opportunity to brush up on my interview skills, as well as hand out a few resumes and get a few job opportunities. It was amazing to see that everyone from McDonald’s to a shoe store to IKEA was there, especially since everyone there was so willing to talk to youth and not at all intimidating. It was much better than the usual interview process.
Make sure to attend the next Hiring Fair and in the meantime check out the Youth Employment Centre!
