What YAA loves about fall: Scented candles

Title

As a teenage girl with the attention span of a 5-year-old, I am easily distracted by anything that moves, is shiny, or smells good. Thus, Bath and Body Works happily drains my wallet. Although I am not that fond of their lotions or soaps, every candle line they come out with consistently makes me swoon.

There is nothing like a good candle to get you into the mood for any season. Having a warm, flickering glow dance in your peripheral vision makes that long-abandoned novel (or homework assignment) seem so much more inviting. The scent of mint invokes in me a feeling of rejuvenation for those days when I want to pamper myself, while sweet and fruity aromas get me pumped up and into a working spirit. By this point, you might think that I have developed some sort of strange, worrying connection with scents – which is understandable. But all you fellow candle-lovers definitely know what I’m getting at.

The BBW candles I like best are the mason jar ones; the three-wick candles are a bit too large, but the candle-to-price ratio of the smaller ones aren’t worth it. Today, I am going to share with you three of my newest favourite finds (although, only one of which is actually from a fall-inspired collection). It is hard to convey a scent to someone, as everyone does interpret smell very differently, but I will try my best to describe these lovely candles to you.

Pumpkin Café – Pumpkin Pecan Waffles

Before you get out your pitch forks and torches, hear me out when I say that I do not like pumpkins. Sure, they are fun to carve or smash, but the taste and texture of pumpkin just sets me on edge. Despite that, this candle is my favourite pick from the three. There’s only a slight hint of pumpkin, although you can still detect it – for those of you pumpkin lovers. The sweetness is so warm that I wish I could wake up to this smell every morning. Sometimes I am almost tempted to take a big bite out of this candle because it really makes me crave a warm, decadent dessert. If you are trying to read, or treating yourself to some tea and cake, this candle provides the ambiance for the perfect mixture of work and play.

Fresh Picked – Eucalyptus Mint

I love everything that has to do with mint: mint gum, candies, air fresheners, ice cream, candles, you name it. This candle has greatly helped with clearing up my blocked sinuses or just giving me an energy boost on days when I felt lethargic or sickly. The scent can be a bit overwhelming if you’re too close to the candle and can even sting you nose a little bit if you’re around it for too long. I recommend putting this candle at a distance and just letting it freshen up a room. I burned through this candle in about a week, and I am considering going out and repurchasing it.

Fresh Picked – Harvest Peaches

This one would have to be my least favourite out of the three, but it sill smells quite nice. I have come to know that just because I like the taste of something, it does not mean the smell would be equally as pleasant. For example, I can’t really imagine what a mashed potatoes candle would smell like. Nonetheless, this candle does smell fresh but a bit too artificially sweet, something I find unappealing in fruity scents. If left with the lid open and unlit, it can freshen up a room.

So go out and find your own bliss in a fall-inspired candle. Feel free to share your favourites with me as well!

  1. Your post seriously just made me consider charging into the nearest BBW and buying all of the pumpkin and vanilla candles in stock. I’ve had so many different phases with that store – first it was the insane assortment of liplicious glosses, which got really out of hand, then it became body lotions, then it jumped to sprays, and finally, I’ve arrived at the candles. Hopefully it’ll be one that lasts awhile, since they make me so. very. happy. Awesome post Ailin!
