I lived in Calgary all my life and never have I experienced a windstorm of this magnitude! There were tornado warnings announced near the outskirts of Calgary. This fact is quite disturbing because-
1) Calgary is (was) geographically situated to make it nearly impossible for us to experience tornadoes (even though we are in the prairies, we aren’t an expansive farmland)
2) The 150 km/h winds demolished 3rd Street and the Bow, smashing trees and windows. This frustratingly closed down the downtown core of Calgary!
What’s even more horrifying is for the passengers on airplanes! I found this amazing video of an airplane crabbing its way to land off the airplane strip and landed on safety. Causing airplane enthusiasts to commend Calgary pilots for their brilliant landings and keeping their high altitude cool.
