With this past Saturday marking the beginning of summer, Youth Are Awesome would like to present you with some of the top things we enjoy the most about this season. The bloggers apart of this series will each present their favourite thing about summer. If you have not already checked out some of the blogs in this series, feel free to peruse our website for more.

Personally, what I enjoy the most about summer is exploring. I love to just delve into the city and stroll the streets of downtown or a random neighbourhood, like Kensington, where I know there will be something exciting to discover. Everyone says how boring Calgary is. But if you look just open yourself up to the possibilities of what Calgary has to offer, you may just be surprised.

This past Friday, I took the liberty of taking the train downtown and took some photos of what I saw that day. Exploring the city is one of the best things about summer. You grow to see the beauty in things that you would have never expected to accept.

I loved the reflective surface of these buildings.

Recently, Kensington was a location for Sled Island. As I was walking around Kensington, I noticed these cyclists on some stationary bikes. These bikes were generating the energy needed for the Sled Island event. Sometimes, what you will find in the city will pleasantly surprise you.

On my way home, I walked through this abandoned playground. This is a photograph taken inside of a rusted, metallic rocket. I thought it suited the theme of venturing into the unknown that underlies the essence of exploration.
