After a wave of newcomers from the Russian-Ukrainian war to Calgary, the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) and Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD), also known as the largest school boards in Calgary, are finding translators foreseeing the inurnment of students from Ukraine.

The registration process and other events throughout the school year will help the interpreter services to the family.

In the daily classroom instruction, there will be no incorporation of translators.

621 Ukrainian students have enrolled as of early August in the Calgary Board of Education (CBE).

The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) has 621 Ukrainian students enrolled as early as august, and the number will rise.

Andrea Holowka, superintendent of school improvement, CBE, said that there are more non-Canadians immigrants coming into CBE compare to what they see even before COVID -19.

She also emphasized that it’s important for us to make sure that we understand where they are at when they come and be able to structure programming for them when they enter the schools.

About 130 Ukrainian students will attend class this fall and expect this number to be inclined.

Newcomer students and their families will get language support and direct links to other services from both boards.

Language services for both school boards are from many organizations, including the Calgary Bridge Foundation.
