As the school year comes to a close, we can all start looking forward to summer vacation! One of my favourite parts to summer vacation would definitely have to be all of the awesome movies that come out. Here is a list of 5 that I cannot wait to see:

5. Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon (June 29)

The third installment in the live action series; in Dark of the Moon, the Autobots have discovered a new secret on the moon and race to beat the evil Decepticons to it. Judging from the trailers and past experiences with Transformers and director Michael Bay, the movie should be action-packed, making for a typical summer blockbuster. I have always been a big fan of Transformers, so I am pretty stoked to see this movie.

4. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (August 5)

A prequel to the world renowned film and novel, Rise of the Planet of the Apes follows Will Rodman, a scientist who is looking for the cure to Alzheimer’s disease. Unfortunately, something goes disastrously wrong, and the scientists all go into damage control mode. Rodman is played by James Franco, to whom I was introduced to through the film 127 Hours. I would definitely recommend checking out 127 Hours, too, as it was an amazing film. Staying on topic, Rise of the Planet of the Apes looks really cool to me, and as a fan of The Planet of the Apes, I am eager to see what they do with this prequel.

3. The Smurfs (July 29)

As a kid, I loved reading the Smurfs comics and watching the cartoons, even though I was about 10 years late on the whole phenomenon. When I saw that they were making a movie based on the Smurfs, I knew that would absolutely have to watch it. For those of you unfamiliar with the Smurfs, they are essentially little blue people with various different personality types (Brainy Smurf, Lazy Smurf, etc.), like the dwarves from Snow White. In the film, they are transported from their own little world to New York City, where hilarity ensues. Starring in the film is Neil Patrick Harris, one of the funniest actors in Hollywood today, in my opinion, so be sure to check it out!

2. X-Men: First Class (June 3)

X-Men: First Class goes back to the very beginning of the story, starting off with Professor X and Magneto, but before they were known as mutants. The film pretty much ties together all the loose strings and thoughts that people may have had about the whole series, but without going into the depth and detail that following the comics would entail. The film follows the story of Professor X, known as Charles, and Magneto, known as Erik, as they experience the Cold War between the United States and Russia. I have followed the X-Men series since the Saturday morning cartoons I watched when I was a kid, so this film is definitely near the top of my list! However, it was beat out by one series that I feel defines our generation…

1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II (July 15)

The dramatic conclusion that we have all been eagerly awaiting for a decade, the final film in the Harry Potter series comes out this July. We witness the final battle between Voldemort and Harry. For those of us that have yet to read the books, who will survive? For those of us that have read the book, will the film be able to complement and top the drama behind those last few chapters? This movie should be a blast, and I am definitely going to be at the midnight showing on the first day.

Agree or disagree with my list? Think that I’m missing an epic movie for the ages? Comment below and let me know what movies you are looking forward to!
