You know when you’re casually browsing the internet for a new song, or a certain picture? But, before you know it, you’ve spent four hours online and are watching a video on training special breeds of giraffes? Suddenly you’ve found yourself in the weird part of the internet. I got stuck in the deep, dark depths of the web the other day, where I discovered some of the most bizarre animals I’ve ever seen. Here are my top three finds.
Theridion Grallator (The Happy Face Spider)
Theridion Grallator, or the happy face spider, is a Hawaiian spider, most commonly known for the cartoon happy face markings on its bright yellow abdomen. This creepy arachnid can grow up to 5 mm (0.20 in) long and is know to locals as “stilt walker” due to its long, spindly legs.
The Blob Fish
The blobfish is a deep sea fish that inhabits mainly the waters of Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania. They are typically 30 cm long and live at depths between 600 m and 1,200 m. Blobfish have gelatinous flesh, allowing them to float barely above the sea floor without any effort. Did I mention they look like sad old men?
Angora Rabbit
Popular for their long and soft wool, these giant fluff balls weigh in at 4-7 lb and were some of the very first domesticated rabbits. The angora looks more like a cotton ball than a rabbit and I want 10 of them. Could you imagine this fluffy beast thumping around your house?
