The Monster
They say it resides in deep caves underground
or in the dunes of sand least expecting
waiting for an unsuspecting prey
or lonesome beast upon which
it can turn it’s claws (or jaws?) onto
we must pray it does not come
to tear us from the soft shelters and houses:
the barriers
we have toiled to achieve
But what of
mythological creatures waiting and preying in lonesome silence
of polka-dotted and striped colors
blazing in painful reds and unbearable ochre
that stalk in dingy sewers of our concrete jungle
a parasite feeding on man’s passionate Glory.
for such things are merely myth they say
and so exist in fiction
why wonder of this (terrible) thing?
but children find it again, this Monster:
look in the mirror
