Google’s Nexus 10

With the recent releases of the Surface, iPad, and Nexus family, there are now quite a few tablets on the market, but which of them is the best to buy?

           1.       Apps

Which has the best apps?

Surface – Windows 8 – “Modern” apps, which can be downloaded from the Windows store, as well as the usual downloading of programs that has been used in previous versions of Windows.

iPad – iOS – With over 700,000 different applications, iOS users have the ability to download any of these apps, but are confined to using a closed source operating system.

Nexus – Android – Though it doesn’t have quite as many applications as one can download on iOS (with about 550,00), the fact that this operating system is open source means that more apps can be downloaded through mediums other than the Play Store, opening up additional means from which to download games and other programs.

          2.       Screen Resolution

Surface – With the Surface serving as the flagship tablet for Windows, the Pro version has a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, allowing for users to take advantage of the screen size and the new interface.

iPad – Though the screen is slightly smaller than the other two tablets, the 2048 x 1536 pixel screen opens up numerous possibilities, creating an environment which is conducive to both browsing and playing games.

Nexus – The ten inch model comes with a screen that has 2560 x 1600 pixels, giving the screen one of the best resolutions currently on the market.

          3.       Types of Available Connections

Surface – The Surface has the least amount of options available, as it does not have any 3G or 4G connections, only containing Bluetooth 4.0.

iPad – With two available models, consumers receive Bluetooth 4.0 and have the option to purchase the iPad which comes with HSPA+ and LTE, opening the possibility for 3G and 4G connections.

Nexus – Nexus buyers are in a similar boat to the iPad users, with the option of buying a tablet with 3G and HSPA+.

          4.       Memory

Surface – the Surface varies in memory, offering consumers the choice between 32, 64 and 128GB, with all models coming with a microSD card slot and either a USB 2.0 or 3.0, depending on the model.

iPad – The iPad is available in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models, but does not have the option for any sort of extended storage.

Nexus – The Nexus 10 offers a base storage of either 16GB or 32GB, but like the iPad, does not offer any solution with which one can increase the storage of the tablet.

The iPad 4

What tablet is best for what use? If you’re looking to watch movies or do any memory heavy work on your tablet in a place where you don’t have WiFi, the Surface is the best, due to the great amount of storage it has an the additional amount of expandable storage. The iPad is the best for anyone who is on the go, as it has the option for 3G, 4G and LTE, giving it the quickest internet along with the most applications, giving anyone who is always traveling the most options. The Nexus is great for any job which requires detailed work, with the screen having the most pixels, ensuring that no matter what you’re creating, you can get it done right the first time. If I had to pick one, I’d buy the iPad – though the price may set you back more than the Nexus, the stronger app selection and option for LTE sell me on this purchase.
