Name of Food: Deep Fried Kool-Aid
Where to Buy: Grannie’s Cheesecake and More (it’s practically “deep fried central” at Stampede)
Cost: $5
What makes it worthwhile: Deep Fried Kool-Aid? OH YEAH. It’s good for what it is, but you really can’t tell that you’re eating Kool-Aid. It’s just added to the batter and the flavour gets lost in the greasiness. It tastes good and all, but if you’re looking for a nostalgic blast from the past of cracking open your Kool-Aid containers (you know exactly what I’m talking about), you won’t get it. It tastes a lot like cereal. Like steaming hot Cap’n Crunch or something of the like. Toaster-strudel-esque, they do make for a good treat. To be honest, I do wish the taste of Kool-Aid was more prominent. You could have used strawberry syrup and it probably would have tasted the exact same. Now I don’t know exactly how to make it taste more like Kool-Aid, but a Kool-Aid reduction sauce could be an idea. Wow, I really did just come up with that.. Maybe it’s time I start a franchise for next year’s Stampede!
