Since the release of the first iPhone back in 2007, there have been loads of smartphones released made by various companies like RIM, Samsung, Sony and Motorola. There are so many smartphones out in our local malls right now that its very hard to chose what to pick. Since mid-2010 dashing phones like the iPhone 4, Blackberry 9900 and the Samsung Galaxy S II have been launched. There’s even a 3D phone! There is a new phone launching almost every week. As these phones are expensive, you have to sign a contract to get a deal and since the contracts are three years long a person should consider each phone available. The question is – what should you look for when buying a phone?

The iPhone 4 is one of the most sold iPhones and the most popular of all the smartphones. It is currently run with iOS 4, which is user-friendly and fun. The iPhone has retina display which is the highest resolution of any smartphone. It has a front and rear camera. The rear camera has 5 megapixels and a with LED flashlight. The special thing that makes iPhones so popular is its App Store. The App store has millions of applications for the iPhone which are both paid and free. These apps makes the phone popular and fun to use. The iPhone 4 costs $700 without a contract.

Blackberry Bold 9900, which just launched last month, has stunned Tech Reviewers because it has almost everything to beat the iPhone. The phone is the thinnest blackberry ever made and is run by Blackberry 7 OS and records 72op video. It also has a touchscreen which is something new for this kind of phone without a sliding keyboard and a fairly small screen. The blackberry’s App World has a lot of apps but still isn’t any match for the Apple App Store. The Blackberry Messenger is what makes the phone so special. It is just like any other messenger but is super fast and easy to add new contacts. The Blackberry 9900 costs $600 without contract which is cheaper than the iPhone but still not the best bang for your buck.

The Samsung Galaxy S II is the first 4G phone and is run by Android which is one the most easy-to-use operating systems. The phone is powered by dual core processors which are pretty fast but do suck a lot of battery. The phone has a 7 megapixel LED camera with a 2 megapixel front facing camera which is more than the iPhone’s camera. The phone is only 8.49 mm thick and has a 4.3 inch screen which is the biggest of all phones. It is very powerful and can run many heavy applications. Samsung Galaxy II costs $600, which is pricy, but you get what you pay for.

  1. With the release of iOS 5 sometime this month, and the biggest new feature to come with it, iMessages. Blackberry can expect to have a competitor for BBM, which personally I think is the only thing that is even keeping people from using their phones at all. There’s a reason why RIM’s stocks have hit an all time low this year, and continue to not improve. RIM I think is being lazy, which I makes me think the 9900 isn’t even worth considering out of those three phones. With Apple already proving it’s dominance in the smartphone market, and the vast majority of Android phones with amazing hardware, and the hacking community starting up those two phones are great choices.

Also on a side note, signing a 3 year contract isn’t that big of a deal to be honest, because what are the odds you’ll actually switch carriers within that period?
