You don’t need to have a huge bedroom or spend lots of money to have a cool bedroom space. There are simple ways to revamp your room. Whether you need a complete bedroom makeover or are just looking for some extra cool things to add to the space; it’s always a good idea to make your room the best it can be!
Open up the Space!
Use lights to brighten up your room and mirrors to make it appear bigger.
Light ideas:
- LED lights
- Fairy Lights (or use some Christmas lights that you probably already have laying around!)
- Neon signs
- Lava lamps
Mirror Tip: You can add stickers to thick borders on mirrors or even paint doodles on them if you’re crafty. Also, note that you can always find different shaped mirrors!
Decorating Your Walls
I already know that you have four walls in your room right now! They are huge blank spaces, ready to be decorated.
Tip: Painting is always a good idea to easily project your room vision, or to cover up wall colours that you don’t like. Consider having an accent wall in your bedroom that is either a different shade or colour than the other walls, (or that has a design or pattern on it). Otherwise, if painting doesn’t work for you, there are still lots of things you could do!
- Put up posters
- Make some art- even if it’s abstract
- You can make a collage and Modge-Podge it onto a canvas (or even a record; really anything of the sort that you can think of)
- Find a Funny Calendar
- Use shelves to display your knickknacks (display small toys you’ve won at carnivals, crafts you’ve made, and items to represent memories!)
- Cover a corkboard in a cute fabric and staple it down to have a cute customized board
Tip: Unless it is a gallery wall filled with multiple pieces, pictures and paintings should be hung at eyesight to bring the room together! So, personalize your walls to project your personality on the base of your room.
Making Your Room a Great Hangout Space
Your room should be a great environment for you to hang out in every single day; and a fun place for friends to stay. So, make it fun, comfortable and functional!
- Get a Gumball Machine! It makes your room a lot more interesting and you have candy!
- Buy Disney+, Netflix or other services to watch movies and shows. This works for any room but it’s a good idea to be able to relax in bed and watch your favourite movie. Watch from a TV, Projector, laptop or phone; any device works.
- Get a Karaoke Machine
- If you have a small caged pet, then decorate their little rooms, too! Some cute ideas are mini furniture, Popsicle stick tables, tiny picture frames and small toys.
Tip: Some fish tanks come with a disco light setting and hamster cages can be glow in the dark! Make your pet’s space look great in yours.
- Get some Plants. Whether real or not, they are always a great addition to any space
- Seating! Beanbags, sitting stools/benches, hanging chairs, and modern accent chairs are just a couple of ideas to make it roomy for guests and yourself
- You can order prism pendants online to hang in front of or stick onto your window which reflects small rainbows all over your room, from the sunlight. They are very cheap and very cool!
- Have a Snack Stash. Save some candies and junk food somewhere. It’s amazing to have at sleepovers or for whenever you’re craving sweets! If you’re extreme, you can get a mini-fridge!
- Use chalkboard paint on your wall or get a chalkboard for you and your friends to doodle, to plan and write notes or reminders
- Use storage bins to store things beneath your bed and in your closet
It’s a Bedroom, Make it Cozy!
- Have lots of blankets and keep slippers close by!
- Get a canopy to go above your bed. It looks super cool and closes off your sleeping space from the space around it.
Tip: You can find good quality canopies online for cheap.
- Add lots of throw pillows on your bed
- A fuzzy rug makes any room a lot more comfortable and homey
Make it Your Room
Project your personality into your room! Personalize everything. Enhance the aspects that are specific to you. You can display posters of artists you’re obsessed with, frame your favourite pictures, hang trophies from sports you’ve played or simply display souvenirs you own.
