It’s back-to-school season once again, and along with restocking your eraser stash comes renewing your wardrobe for the fall ahead. Check out some of the latest fashion trends (almost all of which are iconic from decades past) that are sure to be storming through the halls this school year.

Return of the ’90s

A look from the Nicholas K Fall 2011 Ready to Wear Collection.

Last year saw an entire ’80s revival in fashion, but now that the trend has been done to death, say goodbye to neon leg warmers and hello to slouchy sweaters and tomboyish loafers. The return to the ’90s includes elements from the era’s infamous grunge look, under which come ragged and ripped jeans and sweaters, flannel plaid, and durable boots (Doc Martens are making an enormous comeback).

An Plethora of Patterns

From stars, stripes, dots, checkers and flowers to hugely popular zigzags, a daring (and clashing) mismatch of prints and patterns is in high tide this fall.

Coloured Jeans

Playfully bright colours add a much-needed pop of colour to the downplayed palettes of other Fall 2011 looks.

Maroon jeans, like these featured on a teenvogue.com blog, are the perfect of-the-moment staple for your fall wardrobe.
Bellbottoms
The most obviously retro trend this season, these high-waisted, wide-legged pants certainly aren’t your mom’s jeans. While it helps to be tall to pull off such a look, the currently hot high waists elongate the legs so even shorter girls can get in on the comeback.

Varsity Jackets
Tailored for wistful fans of classic teen movies comes fashion’s latest obsession with letterman jackets, and the best part is you don’t have to date the football captain to wear one proudly.
