By now, you probably think that I’m being sponsored by LUSH. But, unfortunately, I am not (not yet, that is). They just happen to make extremely amazing products and eat up my paychecks. (Proof of my obsession.) But it’s all worth it. I’ve come a long way from my first review of their face wash Ultrabland. Almost all of my daily care supplies have been replaced by products from LUSH. This store is amazing and they stand for amazing things, plus it’s perfect for all vegan and vegetarian friends. The product that I’m reviewing today is a shampoo called I Love Juicy.
“You don’t have to battle oily locks by washing it excessively. You just need effective, deep cleansing ingredients. Start a love affair with the mighty fruit cocktail of I Love Juicy shampoo. Fresh fruit juices of pineapple, mango and kiwi are slightly acidic and help to mop up excess sebum (oil) produced by the scalp. With sea salt for volume and seaweed extract to soften you’re left with squeaky clean hair and scalp, unbelievable shine and touchably soft tresses. Oily hair? It’s a thing of the past.”
Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamide MEA, Fragrance, Propylene Glycol, Lemon Oil (Citrus limonum), Fresh Papaya Juice (Carica papaya), Fine Sea Salt (Sodium Chloride), Carrageenan Extract, Sweet Orange Oil (Citrus sinensis), Fresh Pineapple Juice (Ananas comosus), Fresh Kiwi Juice (Actinidia chinensis), Fresh Mango Juice (Mangifera indica), Citral, Limonene, Benzyl Alcohol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben
Price: ♔♔♔♔
As with all LUSH products, they are fairly expensive, and although the products are definitely worth their price, it can start to put a hole in your wallet. I got the 250 mL bottle for $19.95 (CAD) before tax. After using it for a couple weeks, I am definitely going to commit to the full 500 mL bottle ($29.95) when I run out. I normally use a ton of shampoo, since my hair has gotten quite long, but I seriously only need about 5 mL of product and it can lather up my entire head. I went in with the mentality of “use sparingly” as it is pretty expensive, but I really don’t even need that much. Since I only wash my hair every two days, this one bottle would probably last me two months.
Smell: ♔♔♔♔♔♔
Yes, I gave it six stars (or crowns, whatever you want to call them) for smell. Why? Because it is the best thing I have smelled in my entire life. This shampoo is so delicious I have to resist eating it. The mix of papaya, mango, pineapple, kiwi, lemon, and everything else just makes this shampoo smell like a tropical heaven. And it makes your hair smell like a tropical heaven too. Even after three days since washing my hair, it still smells fruity and fresh. Honestly, I probably stay in the shower a couple minutes extra lathering up my hair just to smell this shampoo.
Application: ♔♔♔♔♔
This is as simple as anything can get. I’m sure we all know how to use shampoo (at least I hope so), and this one is no different. The plastic isn’t too stiff so you aren’t struggling to pour the product out as I sometimes find with certain designs of bottles. The packaging is very secure, so if you are taking this with you on vacation, you won’t have to worry about it spilling everywhere. There is nothing about the bottle that makes it superior to others (aside from the fact that it is from 100% recycled materials). But there are no down sides to it either.
Effectiveness: ♔♔♔♔
I didn’t give this one full ratings because it’s a little bit too effective. I find that although it makes my hair very soft and smooth (we are talking about no fly-aways, people), it dries my hair out. Living in Calgary, that’s not ideal since we have a very dry climate. Using their heaviest conditioner, American Cream, I’ve been able to counterbalance the dryness. For those of you who use a regular shampoo you might want to consider using a deep conditioner, even if you have very oily hair. Something that people don’t realize is that oily hair comes from your hair losing moisture, not having too much moisture. (Unless you actually have a condition which directly causes oily hair, in that case don’t listen to me.) Skipping conditioner when you have oily hair is a very common and detrimental mistake.
Overall: ♔♔♔♔♔
Although you may be thinking that I’m smell-biased, I am being 100% honest when I say that this shampoo is the best thing that’s happened to me in this past month. I will be using this shampoo for the rest of my life as far as I see it.
