The Aftermath of Scotland’s Failed Referendum

0

Britain’s Union Jackif Scotland won had independence (walesoncraic.com)

The cheers and encouragement for Scotland subsided on the morning of Friday, September 19th, as the results for their independence referendum was announced. With  44.7% of votes saying yes to independence and 55.3% going against, Scotland’s dream of independence was crushed one again by indecisiveness. The referendum was held to decide whether or not Scotland should become their own independent nation. If the referendum had passed, Scotland would have assumed total control of their economic and political decisions. But since this did not happen, what caused this surprisingly significant divide among the Scottish people?

The referendum was a promise of a better future for Scotland. On top of the fact that Scotland never actually agreed to be a part of the United Kingdom, but was forced/annexed 300 years ago, the Scottish people consider Britain to be taking control of Scotland’s wealth and resources, and that no one but themselves should have a say in the future of Scotland’s economy and politics. That been said, many critics disagree with this point of view, some even calling the decision rash and clumsy. If Scotland did gain their independence, they would not only lose the pound(£) currency (very stable on the global market) and would also have had to create a new one; and the promise of its success was very slim. Some Scottish people defended their economic stability with their possession of the North Sea Oil, but experts claim that the Oil production is already past its peak, and will start to decline drastically in 2040. On top of the bruises, the Royal Bank of Scotland had announced that their headquarters will be relocated to London if the referendum goes through (bbc.com). Scotland will even have to re-apply for a spot on the European Union, and with the above mentioned lack-of economic prosperity, Scotland does not have much more to offer. Nevertheless, some still called for separation, mainly out of national pride and the always imminent threat of cultural assimilation. As always, situations like this are always complicated to the core, and just because a nation has the ability to gain independence, doesn’t mean they should. Is it really worth it to barter economic security for more freedom and independent governance?

A lone “yes” supporter walks down the street of Edinburgh after the results (globalnews.ca)

A week after the referendum ended, and Scotland and the rest of Europe are still feeling its effects. U.K.’s Prime Minister David Cameron had promised Scotland more political power even if the referendum said “no”, in an attempt to smooth the relationship between Britain and Scotland.  Promising a balance of power throughout the U.K., a draft of new laws that will give Scotland the power to vote on their tax, spending, welfare, and other issues in their own Scottish Parliament will be published in January (japantimes.co.jp). Despite the apparent thoughtful compromise, Cameron faces backlash from his own Conservative Party, as he had promised too much to the Scots. If or when Scotland gains more seats in parliament, they will have more power not only in the decisions in Scotland, but also in the decision making process of Britain. This is increasingly problematic when you look at Great Britain’s whopping 53 million population to Scotland’s 5.3 million.

The other countries of Europe also watch uneasily, as they fear that the independence movement will spread to their own ethnic citizens. Top examples are the people of Catalonia of Spain and the  Flanders of Belgium. Apart from the already protests and peaceful riots in the streets of Barcelona, Catalonia has also announced their intentions to also hold a referendum in 2014. The Scottish referendum has also inspired the Flemish (Flanders) nationalists with hope of their separation.

As the fires of Europe’s political maelstrom dies down, one could only hope for peaceful years to come. But a nationalist movement is always around the corner, hoping to reaffirm their identity and culture by the act of separation. And yet, in our ever globalizing world, keeping alliances instead of severing them might be the wiser thing to do.

Somewhere, somehow (Limerick)

0

Even when I’m not there with you physically,
I’m always with you daily.
Because when I said we’d be, you and me,
When I said I’d love you endlessly,
I’m somewhere, somehow there with you, baby.

Nothing like a few sweet lines to help warm your day as the days get colder.

Yes, this isn’t exactly the kind of post I do every week but here’s my reason as to why I’m posting this instead of a new “meets life” post: I’m in the works of prepping an Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin meets life post with some other bloggers so there’s no new meets life this week. However, I am still issuing a challenge to you, the reader, and my fellow YAA friends: if you’re in a relationship, you can understand that with so many factors taking your free time away like school, work, and stress, it’s hard to treat the one you love to a movie night or nice dinner to help ease away the stress for a few hours.

This week, I challenge you to make it work. Here’s a few tips to get you started:

-Plan something for your girlfriend/boyfriend for the week, even if it’s just a small gift like a card. Take them out to a movie, or you can take a pair of earphones, a good song, and slow dance somewhere special. They’re going to enjoy the little rainbow that they see within the storm.

-If you’re not in a relationship (… like me), then you can still do something special for your family or friends. Plan the weekend to hang out with some of your friends for a while; no homework, no school, no stress. Go grab a meal to eat, a movie to watch, and wash away the tension that’s already been building since the new school year started.

-If you’re not up to hang out with anyone, then you can still enjoy some time alone. Take an hour or two to refresh yourself this weekend. Clear your mind of your stress by doing your favorite hobby, watching an old movie, cuddling up to read a good book, or simply taking a rest. It’s good to take a small break every once in a while.

There’s always time to make for those you care for.  Don’t forget that.

A few helpful tips about organization

0

Organization. Probably the bane of my existence. Ask anyone who knows me and they’ll tell you that I am one of the least organized people in the world. Being disorganized in high school is a living nightmare. You don’t get second chances; if you forget something, too bad, so sad. So, I have been trying desperately to get overcome my complete disregard for organization. Here are a few things I’ve found useful.

1. Separate everything and categorize

staples-logo
It’s not quite as easy as it seems. But, Staples helps.

I currently use four binders, one for each class that I’m taking. It might seem a little extreme, but for me it helps a lot. Make sure you categorize everything, either into subjects, due dates, or whatever else. This way, it’s easier to find what you’re looking for when you’re looking for it. Personally, I don’t believe that putting every subject into one binder works that well just because things do tend to get mixed up, but if you are able to keep that giant stack of papers organized, I applaud you.

2.Label

Labels are wonderful, wonderful things. Use them, they make life much easier. They labels I use are full-page ones from Staples. I can separate my already  subject-divided binders into even smaller sections, whether it be by units or types of assignment. This lets me locate anything inside any of my binders quickly and also lets me put new work into the correct place.

3. Use less loose-leaf paper

I used to use loose-leaf paper for all of my classwork and homework. Don’t do that. Loose-leaf is called that for a reason, it’s loose and it loves to float around everywhere like a leaf. For disorganized people like me, that can be devastating. We lose work, work we don’t lose gets dirty, crumpled and torn. It’s hard to keep in our binders and rips easily. So, don’t use loose leaf, get a bound notebook instead. When you need a piece of loose leaf, just tear it out. And everything else stays organized and clean.

4. Time Management

This one may not seem really related to organization, but trust me, it is. I don’t know how many times I’ve planned to clean my bag, but have simply run out of time due to homework or other commitments. Set a time every few days that doesn’t interfere with anythingsloth sleepelse you do. Then just take 20-30 minutes to go through your books and organize them. Take out papers you don’t need and categorize the ones you do need.

5. Keep tabs on everything

I have recently started to keep an agenda of things that I have due which are done and which still need to be done. This is really helpful in helping prevent those “AW FUDGE” moments when you realize you forgot about the six trillion projects you had due after the break.

6. Don’t be lazy

This is what it all comes down to. How much you want to be clean and organized. When it comes to organization, I’m about as apathetic as a sloth. But, you have to force yourself to do it, after a while you start to get into the habit of putting papers away in your binder and writing down due dates. I’m not saying I hate having to be organized any less, but I have learned to accept it. Because I have to. And so do you. So, the sooner you do, the better.

My top five favourite YouTube channels

0

YouTube is amazing. I think many of us can agree on that simple statement. Like all stories, my YouTube “obsession” has a beginning. I was over at a friends house and we were chilling as friends do, and she suddenly burst out in excitement and said something along the lines of, “Guess what I found on the Internet!” She went on the computer and pulled up YouTube. At that point in time, my knowledge and experience with that website consisted of music videos with lyrics fleeting across the screen in comic sans and people falling down. I thought that was pretty darn good already, so when she pulled up videos of people intentionally being funny, and doing skits, and just being downright hilarious I may or may not have spent hours after on that site until the point where the logo was burnt unto my retinas.

Throughout the past five years or so (wow, that’s a long time), I have discovered people on YouTube with similar humour, people with incredible talent, and people who just want to watch the world learn. There’s so many things that can be found on the site that’s impossible to say to yourself, “I’ll just be on for five minutes,” and actually mean it. It’s tough for me to choose favorites because a) I change my  mind every week and b) my mentality is: “There are so many cool things I could recommend. How could I ever choose??” So for the sake of simplicity, I will choose at random five YouTube channels that I am currently subscribed to. Ready? Ok, here we go!

1. Alltime10s

If you’re not subscribed to this channel by now, you need to get on that. They do top ten-type videos on topics such as Curious Theories about Aliens and Dumbest 911 Calls.

DIY beachy hair

0

Have you ever seen those beautiful beachy waves and though, man, I wish my hair looked like that! Well, now it can. Sea salt sprays aid in making tousled, wavy hair. It helps to keep the curls more defined and stay longer, naturally. Sea salt itself is also great for your hair because of all of the minerals present in it. It helps to moisturize your hair and remove dandruff.

To make this DIY sea salt spray, you will need the following ingredients:

  • An empty spray bottle
  • Warm water
  • Sea salt
  • Conditioner
  • An essential oil of your choice

To make this spray, you need to first add however much sea salt you want into the spray bottle. Next, add the conditioner. For around every litre of water you use, add ½ teaspoon of conditioner. Do not add too much because then the mixture will not dissolve properly. To enhance the smell, try using a coconut conditioner.

After adding the conditioner, use an essential oil of your choice. This could be jasmine, lavender, lemon, rose, etc. Add 1 teaspoon of this into the mixture. The essential oils will help moisturize your scalp. Finally, add in the warm water. Screw on the cap and shake it to combine all of the ingredients. This spray can be used on both dry and damp hair.

Although it no longer is beachy weather, you can always lock the flawless beachy look!

Are you affecting the lives of others positively?

0

Have you recently looked through your life, asking yourself this question, “Am I affecting the lives of others positively?” Have you ever taken time just to reflect and see those around you? Ralph Waldo Emerson said,

Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ralph Waldo Emerson

The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honourable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”

For as long as I have lived, I’ve noticed three kinds of people- those who hate their life and complain bitterly, those who just tolerate their life and see it as merely nothing, and finally those who love their life and relish it. The third kinds of people are those who stand out; these are individuals who are willing to answer the call to change to the world for the better.

Reflecting on my experience volunteering with Youth Central and those around me, I would say I’ve had the opportunity to meet people who have made some sort of impact in the world. Of course, this impact doesn’t have to be as momentous as finding the cure for cancer or feeding a million people. The impact I am referring to can be as simple as giving your time in your community or even helping a friend out in any particular area of their life. Although their impact may be seen as minimal, I believe individuals like these should be seen as courageous, self-sacrificing people who set examples for all of us. This makes me remember a quote by Robert F. Kennedy which says,

Robert F. Kennedy
Robert F. Kennedy

“Few will have the greatness to bend history itself, but each of us can work to change a small portion of events. It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”

In life, I’ve also noticed a recurring pattern that accompanies those who make a positive difference in the lives of others. Well, these individuals are not usually privileged, advantaged, or even unique by any account. A lot of theses individuals actually originate from disadvantaged families and limitless limitations, but they find ways to rise above their hopeless situation to reshape their lives as well as the lives of others.

Here are some values that should be present in you:

They Embrace Criticism

From wikiHow
From wikiHow

Individuals who make a positive difference aren’t always right; in fact, the mistakes they make give them the push into making a positive impact. Individuals like these feel the need to grow and be more effective; hence, they look into their shortcomings and embrace them. These sorts of individuals are strong and confident in the face of hostility. At the same time, they know how to incorporate criticism to strengthen them, thereby making an even bigger impact in the lives of others.

Their engagement with people is mutually beneficial

From Wiki How
From wikiHow

Certain individuals that exercise this value know because they know that positive impacts are based on strong relationships, connections, and contact. These people are not afraid of getting out there to make connections with others, share their talents, and sacrifice their time even when it is difficult. They have overcome any sort of timidity, shyness, or reluctance to be who they are; and have also learned to relate with others in order to elevate their relationship. They believe that the only way to guarantee a solid and authentic relationship with others is by positive and supportive.

They see their adventure as their primary objective

flat,550x550,075,f

Finally, those that make a positive impact never take short cuts towards their objective. They don’t aspire for goals that have no end results, as their final goal in life because they believe there is no end; for them, life is a journey. They embrace life as a learning experience, which helps them set their mindset towards building the lives of others around them. Their ultimate goal is not to make a name for themselves, but to rather use their learning experiences to aid those they know.

So are you affecting the lives of those around you? And are these behaviours present in you?

What YAA loves about fall: The transformation of the leaves

1

This past weekend marked the official start to fall, which means fall fashion, pumpkin spiced everything, new TV seasons, and the beautiful colours of the changing leaves. One of the first memories I have of fall in Canada is walking along the Bow River with my family. Burgundy and golden leaves showered on us, as we remarked the glories of one of the first signs that fall is coming. Ever since then, observing the changing leaves has been one of my favourite autumnal activities. I love to stroll along the river side, walking my dog and seeing him frolic in the leaves. Calgary has endured harsh winter conditions for a brief period in the beginning of September. But this has not deterred the leaves from transforming in the latter of this month.

You do not have to travel too far to revel in autumn’s bliss. These are some photos of my walk this afternoon:

How to use chalk to temporarily highlight hair

0

Chalking hair is a great way to temporarily dye hair. It doesn’t take much time to chalk hair, and it’s easy to do. For those of us who prefer to change styles frequently, chalking is perfect as it isn’t permanent. Additionally, chalking hair is cheap and doesn’t damage your hair, so don’t worry!  You can find basic chalks and soft pastels from Michael’s or Walmart. There are also professional hair chalks if you are willing to spend the money. Commonly, non-oil-based chalk is used; oil-based will stain your clothing and sidewalk chalks are often too dusty. Here’s how to do it:

Hair chalk, from: https://thehunt.insnw.net/app/public/system/zine_images/284948/original/d3d79ee71fee0eb23823b3493754955c.jpg
  1. Select your colour(s)
If you have darker hair, you might want to consider a brighter palate to make the colors pop. For lighter haired people, almost all colors will work.

    Shampooing, from: http://cdn.josephfleischer.com/wp-content//uploads/hair-washing-648×330.jpg
  2. Wash your hair
Try not to use conditioner; this will help the chalk to stay in your hair longer.

    Chalking hair, from: http://thebeautydepartment.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/tbdchalking2b.jpg
  3. Chalk your hair
Cover your shoulders with a an old towel or wear an old T-shirt. Using downward strokes, apply the chalk to a section of your hair. Twist your hair as you work. The more you chalk an area of hair, the more vibrant the resulting color will be. You can dab at any loose chalk with some water and a paper towel.

    Chalk highlights, from: http://www.shebudgets.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2014/06/hair-chalk-650×365.jpg
  4. Dry your hair
Be patient and air dry your hair. You can also blow dry your hair, but be careful of blowing off the chalk.

    Curling, from: http://www.elle.com/cm/elle/images/2O/elle-05-diy-hair-chalk-h-lgn.jpg
  5. Seal the colour
When your hair is almost completely dry, seal in the chalk colour by straightening or curling your hair.

    Hair styles, from: http://thebeautydepartment.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/TBDchalkitup2.jpg
  6. Style
With your hair chalked, you can curl it, braid it – style it to give add the wow factor. It’s a bit early, but consider styling your hair for Halloween with fun highlights!

While the highlights are still in your hair make sure not to wear light shades of clothing, and don’t get wet! Also, consider laying a towel on your pillow to avoid chalk stains. They will stay in your hair for around 2-5 washes, depending on the darkness of your hair and your shampoo. Avoiding combing and brushing will help the color to stay in longer. Condition your hair well after chalking to replenish the natural moisture the chalk dries out. Enjoy ★

De-cluttering and de-stressing in a gridlocked life

0
P4P @ pound4poundmma.ca
P4P @ pound4poundmma.ca

School’s back in session, and over the course of the year, it’s inevitable that you’ll encounter some times when you feel overwhelmed with the unending procession of deadlines and due dates. Eventually, there will come a point when stress is going to be detrimental to your productivity rather than beneficial. Here are a few tips to clean up your thoughts and give you some breathing space:

Fashionary Planner @ fashionary.org

1. Write down your tasks.

As commitments start to pile up and the sheer volume of assignments becomes hard to handle, trying to cram it all into your head is going to start to be a lot less effective. Take a few moments to write down each of the things you need to remember in a notebook or planner (traditional or digital) as they come up. It might seem like a hassle to always have to record everything, but outsourcing the job of remembering and recalling a long list of tasks will save you a lot of time, a lot of energy, and make you less prone to forgetting things and making mistakes.

2. Prioritize, then stick to your game plan.

from binaryoptionzone.com

A lot of the time, a chronological order of deadlines is a good way to go when prioritizing tasks, but sometimes this isn’t the case. You might decide that you want to get a head start on a harder project that’s due later than an easier one you know you won’t have trouble with. Sometimes, enjoyability factors into the order of your tasks. No matter what you decide to do in what order, staying dedicated to that plan is extremely helpful in maximizing efficiency. Jumping from project to project wastes a lot of time, and working while worrying over whether or not you’ll meet a deadline causes unneeded stress and distraction.

from Aby Garvy @ simplify101.com

3. Clean out your binder(s) regularly.

Especially true towards the end of the year, a binder that is prone to explosion is often filled to a large extent by papers, old homework assignments, and things that aren’t necessary for immediate use. Compile any notes and work you want to retain in one place, like another binder or an accordion folder, and discard whatever you no longer need to keep. A neat and tidy binder can help you find things more quickly, and it minimizes the chances of important assignments getting eaten by the rest of your papers.

from ancilloti @ hubpages.com

4. Resolve interpersonal conflicts.

While it remains that some conflicts cannot be quickly fixed, problems with friends and family can be a huge weight on you and should be dealt with quickly. If you’re constantly worrying about a fight with your parents or if a friend is constantly needling at you, it can be very difficult to concentrate on tasks at hand, and the emotional strain can amplify your overall stress levels. Don’t let problems linger and hang over you for extended periods of time. Address any conflicts that you might be able to resolve right away, and make an effort to compromise as soon as possible.

5. Take some time off to boost your motivation!

Even when you need every last minute before a deadline, it’s a good idea to take fifteen or twenty minutes out of your busy schedule to rejuvenate your morale. A short break can do wonders for your productivity in the following hours. Go for a walk or play a few rounds of a pointless flash game. There are also some really great motivational sites out there – chibird’s Tumblr and the /r/GetMotivated subreddit are two of my favourites – so take a bit of time to explore. 1.  Kingsoft (WPS Office)

If you don’t have Microsoft and you’re battling with temperamental writing softwares like LibreOffice and OpenOffice, stop what you’re doing, uninstall them, and download this. I have been using this software for around two years now, and it has made things much easier. The layout is easy to understand, it has different skins for customizing, and the writing program has tabs so you don’t have to switch windows when multiple documents are opened.

*Use caution when downloading things. Make sure your anti-virus is up to date and working.

When you know the meaning of the word but you don’t know the word itself look to OneLook for help. Type in a couple of words. a sentence, or even a question click “Find Words” and you’ll get a list of things related to what you searched.

3.  HemingwayApp

Hemingway is an app that you can use to improve your writing by highlighting the things that you can improve on. There’s even a desktop version now, though I’ve yet to try it.

Google’s great, but have you seen this? You can search questions about math, linguistics, step-by-step solutions, life sciences, and much more. This gives you a systematic answer and forgoes introducing a page. This wonderful search engine doesn’t just have Albert Einstein’s history, you can search for your favourite celebrity and get information on their height (for research purposes of course), their familial relationships (maybe their parents were famous too), and their notable films.

Calgary International Film Festival Review: God Help the Girl

0

Summary: A young girl named Eve starts writing songs as a way to help her get past some emotional problems. Along the way, she meets two other musicians, James and Cassie, and they start a band.

source
source

I first heard about this film while reading one of my favorite magazines and was immediately intrigued. The story is very simple but it’s told in an interesting way; through music. I wouldn’t exactly go as far as calling it a musical but there are various songs and dances throughout the film that bring its indie charm. I was very impressed by all of the songs in the movie; they were all written specifically for the film and the choreography was cute. I also really enjoyed the costumes, they were very retro and mod which helped add to the indie vibe of the film and everything straight down to the accessories in Jame’s flat were well thought out. The characters were charming and the actors fit their roles perfectly. My only issue with the film was with the singing. I didn’t particularly enjoy Hannah Murray’s (Cassie’s) singing voice and unfortunately I had to hear it quite a bit during the 111 minute film. The story is set and filmed in Scotland which I thought was great, it’s always been a place of interest to me and I go to see some of the things you would never discover as a tourist. The cinematography was stunning, all of the colors were vibrant and the locations were just wonderful. One specific scene that stood out to me was where the trio decides to take a day trip canoeing down this gorgeous river. God Help the Girl was equal parts funny, quirky and serious. They touched on subjects like eating disorders and depression without making the movie feel heavy all while getting the point across. I don’t have anything that critical to say about the film other than the fact that it was slightly confusing at times, I wasn’t one hundred percent sure if the musical numbers were fantasy or reality until Eve started singing and playing “doctor” with James a little while into the film. Overall this movie is great for music and film enthusiasts alike, the acting was great, the story was simple and quirky and it was a very memorable film. With a little more clarity through dialogue and maybe some singing lessons, this movie would have been flawless.

What YAA loves about fall: Seasonal teas

0

I don’t know about you, but I can’t possibly imagine a fall day better spent than sitting in the park, taking in the crisp air and autumnal colours with a fragrant tea warming my hands. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a tea addict year-round. But come September, there’s little that pleases me more than shelving the fruity summer teas and returning to my beloved fragrant, spicy blends. This fall, there have been three teas that have stolen my heart. Even if you’re not an avid tea-drinker, I highly suggest that you get into the spirit of the season and give one of these a try.

1. Autumn Apricot by Healing House Tea

autumn apricot

Healing House is an emerging local tea company that focuses on creating tea blends rich with health benefits. I came across them at the Market Collective way back in May, but I picked up an autumn-themed tea nonetheless. It has rooibos tea base which means it’s caffeine-free, and the fruity flavour comes from sweet apricot and Asian pears. Like all of Healing House’s blends, it is made from organic ingredients, natural flavours, and is certified free trade.

2. Pumpkin Chai by DAVIDsTEA

pumpkin chai

Oh my goodness. I don’t have the words to express my love for this tea. It’s quite a contrast from Autumn Apricot — this is where the deeper flavour of a black tea comes to centre stage. It’s a perfect blend of a spicy, pumpkin-y and slightly creamy taste — and to top it all off, it’s made with are little pumpkin-shaped sprinkles.

Montreal-based David’s Tea has seven locations in Calgary, so if you’re craving a delicious mug of warm tea to warm you up on a breezy day this autumn, make your way down to your local store and you will not be disappointed. Seriously. My fall’s not complete without a cup of this stuff.

3. Oprah Chai Tea by Teavana

oprah

Earlier this year, Oprah Winfrey teamed up with Teavana to create her own chai tea blend. I know, I know, there are a million types of chai out there already, but something about Oprah’s blend is really unique. Every purchase donates to her Leadership Academy, an all-girls boarding school in South Africa. When you buy it as a hot drink at Starbucks, it’s a bit pricier than their regular Tazo chai option, but I’m okay with spending an extra dollar if it goes towards educating underprivileged women.

While this tea is available all year round, the smooth fragrant taste makes it feel especially appropriate in autumn. It has a more subtle spice than your average chai, but definitely highlights the cinnamon that a regular chai generally overpowers with nutmeg or clove. Next time you’re at Starbucks and not sure what to try — maybe consider trying this delicious chai blend and supporting South African women at the same time.

These teas are my autumn favourites, but I would love to hear about yours! Feel free to share some of your fall beverage recommendations in the comments below.

Guardians of the Galaxy movie review

Guardians of the Galaxy is directed by James Gunn, and it starts Chris Patt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Batista and Vin Diesel.

In the movie, Peter Quinn finds himself part of a bounty hunt after stealing an orb wanted by Ronan, a bounty hunter with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To survive, he joins Rocket, a tech savvy racoon; Groot, a human-like tree; the vicious and revenge wanting Drax the Destroyer; and a deadly green alien girl known as Gamora. Soon he discovers the true power of the orb, and that if Ronan manages to get it, it threatens the entire universe. In a desperate attempt to stop him, he joins his friends to save himself, and the entire universe.

IMDb rated this movie 8.6/10; however I would give it 8/10.

When I went to watch this movie, I didn’t know what to expect, as I’m not a fan of the genre, however the movie proved to be worth watching, due to its amazing graphics, unique storyline, and of course the humour. I feel this movie lacked character development or much backstory, but if James decides to make a sequel, he may be able to cover it in the next movie.

Even though its lacks in a few aspects, I feel this movie is worth watching, because of it’s action packed scenes and it’s humour, and I would recommend watching this movie.

Below is a scene I found funny in the movie.

Since school has started, everyone’s schedule is getting packed – from early morning practices to after school activities. That’s why we all need a delicious and nutritious breakfast to keep our brains working and bodies energized. However, most of us don’t have time in the morning to make a well-rounded lunch, or when you open the fridge, you get overwhelmed by the food and don’t know what to eat.  But don’t worry, it happens to all of us!

That’s why today, I am going to show you the all powerful super omelette that can be made in 15 minutes:

Tomato and basil omelette

Looks yummy right? Its actually one of the simplest omelettes I have EVER made.

To make this omelette, you don’t have to follow the recipe word by word. Get creative, if you like mushrooms, add some. This is a secret: it will taste better if you add in your favorite vegetables.

So, let’s get started.

The ingredients: ( makes servings for 1):

  • 2 slices of quality prosciutto (can be replaced with shreds of bacon)
  • 2 eggs (free range eggs are the best as they are the HAPPY eggs)
  • 1/2 handful of grape tomatoes (different colors will make the omelette look more attractive)
  • 1/2 handful of fresh basil leaves (the amount of basil can be up to you, giving your omelette the taste that you like)
  • 1/2 handful of red chili with the seeds removed and fine chopped (optional; replace if you do not like things that are hot and spicy; can be replaced with any kind of vegetables)
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil for drizzling (optional)

How-to:

  1. Preheat your stove to high and place a non-stick frying pan until you can feel some warmth if you put your hand a little above the bottom of the pan. WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE PAN WHEN IT IS HOT.
  2. Dry fry the prosciutto until crisp; or if you choose, pour in a teaspoon of olive oil, and let your bacon shreds do their thing.
  3.  Remove the prosciutto/bacon to a plate and place the pan back onto heat.
  4. Whisk the eggs in a small bowl and season with sea salt and pepper.
  5. Pour the egg mixture into the pan and mix the egg around the pan with a spatula( forks may scratch the pan).
  6. Scatter the tomato/vegetable pieces on top of the egg.
  7. Turn of the grill and use the excess heat to cook until the eggs and the tomatoes are nice and warm.
  8. Throw the prosciutto/bacon on top of the egg and sprinkle the basil and the chili.
  9. Season with black pepper and drizzle the olive oil on top
  10. Voila! Your omelette is ready

This easy to make recipe has being my best friend for years. I hope you guys will also enjoy it.
