This past weekend, I had the opportunity to participate in a water literacy conference in Kananaskis through my school’s environment club. It was an amazing experience that shed light on water resources in Alberta and its relation to industry. We participated in many workshops, and were able to hear from experts in water related fields. The oil company Statoil even presented talks about thier failures regarding water usage and the actions that they are taking to correct thier mistakes. I thought that it was incredibly refreshing and responsible of thier company to attend the environmental conference with openmindedness and honesty. I thought that the conference was a fantastic way of generating enthusiasim and dedication to the water cause, as all of the participants in the weekend are now working on their own conservation projects within thier school. Personally, I feel much more informed, able and motivated to create change after taking part in the water literacy youth summit. If you are interested in participating in the all expenses paid conference next yet, I recommend that you apply. You don’t even have to have an environmental club established yet- just find a group of dedicated teachers and students who wish to make a change like you!
