NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) had recently finished mapping the surface of our moon. With its wide angled camera, over 4,000 images were taken over the course of a month in seven different wavelengths in different resolutions. Scientists then took the images and put them together like a puzzle and created the following map:
This map uncovers large areas in which titanium ores are abundant, and lunar rocks which contain ten times as much mineral as the rocks on earth. Not only does this discovery allow scientists to have a better understanding of the lunar interior, but also gives way to possible lunar mining expeditions in the future.
