It seems like Apple really has a knack of creating a great new product every ten years, we first saw that with the iPhone X and now we are seeing it with the newest edition of the MacBook Air. This newest installment of the MacBook Air shows a reinvigorating design of an iconic MacBook Air which was first introduced by Steve Jobs in 2008.

The largest improvement to the MacBook Air comes in the addition of a newly redesigned and added retina display. The new display features 48% more colours compared to the previous generation. However, the most prominent change to the display is the pixel density increase compared to the previous generation model; that being a jump from a resolution of 1440 x 900 to 2560 x 1600. Moreover, alongside the greatly improved display, Apple has reduced the size of the borders around the screen by 50% giving the laptop a significantly higher amount of screen to body ratio.

Alongside the screen, Apple has also redesigned the keyboard, implementing the newest iteration of the butterfly keyboard technology. This new technology is a large improvement from the previous scissor keyboard technology which featured a different key mechanism structure compared to the butterfly keyboard. The newest butterfly technology has already been implemented on the pro lineup however this is its debut on the MacBook Air lineup. One other notable addition to the keyboard is the introduction of Touch ID. Touch ID was previously only available on the Macbook pro lineups however similarly to the Butterfly keyboard technology Apple decided to bring the tech over to the Air. Alongside the keyboard, Apple has also introduced a 20% larger force touch trackpad which makes doing tasks such as browsing the web or editing videos a breeze.

Staying true to its name, the MacBook Air is incredibly light coming in at just 1.25kg and 15.66 mm thick. This allows it to be a perfect size and weight for a student, someone who commutes with their laptop, or someone who is looking for a daily driver Mac but is not looking for the added weight and processing power of the MacBook Pro. Overall the MacBook Air is a fantastic notebook which offers outstanding battery life,  a great screen, a fantastically redesigned keyboard, and all overall great Macintosh experience. If you are in the market for a new laptop the MacBook Air should definitely be dealt some consideration.
