Expression to the Extreme

I admit, I am overly obsessed with reading my Teen Vogue magazine each month. When I got my February 2013 issue I was very happy, I was even happier after reading a specific article that spoke to me. It was all about expressing yourself through how you style yourself.

The articles main focus and message was to express that people who have “out of the ordinary” style choices don’t always do it for attention, they do it to show people who they really are.

I believe that everyone should express themselves freely, weather they are expressing it for their personality or for a cause like the man in the “Dye Your Hair Get Fired” story written on this website awhile ago.

I recently dyed my hair from my normal brown to a more fun and crazy red. I love it and I have gotten some compliments, but I have gotten some negative feedback on it. I wanted a change because I believe that the red shows that I am not a normal person, I am fun and wild and I have no problem with being called weird and quirky. Because I know that’s who I am.

The other day at I saw a teenaged boy around 16 or 17 riding his skateboard in his skinny jeans and a black and red tutu and giant gauges/spacers in his ears. Many people stopped and stared and even started to talk about him, you could hear whispers all around!  Although I expected it to happen, I just hoped it wouldn’t have because it is simply irrelevant to anybody there but they all had to go and judge him anyways.

I am a big believer in supporting people to express themselves freely, it gives you a new confidence to be you and you’ll feel great too. You shouldn’t be afraid of what others say because there will always be people that won’t agree with you doing it. If you love your “extreme fashion choices” why waste your time with the people that don’t?
