Deer: A Brief Creative Writing Piece

A few weeks ago I saw a breath-taking deer on the side of the road. When I arrived home, there was another deer just standing there on our lawn. I wrote this piece of creative writing as I wanted to capture the initial moment and memory of seeing this animal for the first time and share it with you all…

Standing tall and still in the middle of the highway, a large, quadrupedal creature has drawn the attention of all nearby drivers. The animal seems lost in its thoughts, only twitching its sharp oversized ears to outside influences. However, its peaceful nature is not reflective of its size and appearance. Sturdy, menacing-looking horns seem as though they could pierce right through my car door. It is hard to imagine any animal that would not be intimidated by such a formidable weapon! The nimble animal prances around occasionally, but it mostly stands tall and proud on its slender legs, showing off its majestic antlers. Its fur is a light shade of brown and bronze, a complex hue I had never witnessed before. The bright midday sunlight reflects brightly off the snow-white horns, adding to its divine appearance that should only belong in books of mythology. When it decides to move, it sounds similar to two rocks hitting each other emerge from the asphalt, creating a rhythmic beat of harmonious collisions. As I examine it further, the deer suddenly fixes its gaze on me, the mahogany eyes blinking in short intervals, as if surveying me. Then, without warning, it lets out a bestial grunt—loud enough to bring all the nearby drivers and birds back to their senses—and darts off toward its home. All eyes are on the animal as it gracefully leaps over a road divider and disappears in a flash into the dense forest.
