A Story of Growth

Recently, I was a part of the Dale Carnegie Training Course for Effective Communications and Human Relations. I spent 12 sessions waking up early on Saturdays (crazy, I know) to attend this program that was actually offered to me on behalf of Youth Central. When I heard of the opportunity I had, I was ecstatic because I had already read books by Dale Carnegie and they had already impacted my life, I was eager to find out what a training course could do for me.

A prize I won for being the Most Oustanding for one of the sessions!

For those who don’t know, Dale Carnegie is an author of several handbooks that will guide you through your life. His titles include: “How to Win Friends and Influence People” and “How to Stop Worrying and Start Living.” These two books alone will change your life if you practise the principles Dale Carnegie suggests. These books were published in 1936 and 1948 respectively, yet the content inside them is timeless. The difference between then and now is that it was intended for adults so that they can better their careers and rapport with others. Yet today, young adults can benefit just as much, if not more. By establishing such fundamental principles, we can take the information to heart and keep it onwards for the rest of our lives.

So how did the program help me?  Well, as I said before, I have already read some of Dale Carnegie’s works, and had already implemented a lot of it into my life. So I walked into the course expecting to meet a group of amazing individuals who were ready to change their lives too. I was truly excited to see how Dale Carnegie could affect others instead of just me. So the courses went on and eventually, us students spent 12 Saturday mornings together. You could imagine the bonds that were formed. I got to see each and every one of these strangers grow and transform into people I were proud to call friends. Those who were once timid became confident, those were were quiet ended up having the biggest mouths, those were once saw themselves as nobodys soon found out that they were much more special than that. I grew as well: I developed stronger senses of human relations and compassion, as well as got a first-hand look into the mirror of who I really was. I realised how much Dale Carnegie had already helped me, and the program not only reaffirmed that but it also helped me elevate myself to a newer level of understanding. I learned new things about myself that I knew I had to embrace, and I found many similar things present with my friends; they all had something special about them. Essentially, a family was formed among us, and I was blessed enough to be a part of such a family. To see everyone not only grow, but grow together, that was something truly meaningful.

I would like to thank Youth Central once more for such an opportunity and I would strongly recommend anyone partaking in such a program.  It really does have potential to change your life.
