Congratulations, Premier Redford!

Some days, I feel like 17 is an in-between age. Remnants of your sweet 16 celebration come along with the envious longing for liberties of 18. Last Saturday, however, I got a taste of what is to come in the Oct 1 vote for the next Progressive Conservative party leader and my first time voting in an election.

Making Albertan history, Alison Redford, Premier-designate, is the first woman to assume the role of premier in this province. This is a time of grief and mourning due to Redford’s mother passing away the day before the debate as well as victory and revelry. This win is a definite high point for Redford and supporters, as Gary Mar was the front-running favourite to win from the beginning. So goes the tale of the turtle and the hare. Congratulations, Premier Redford!

Redford’s campaign was based on change, and change is what she promises and fast. Within the next 10 days, Redford is set on restoring budgets cuts to education in Alberta. She plans to take equally immediate action to solve issues on health-care.

They say, behind every man is a woman. This time, the woman is in the spotlight and there is no doubt that she will do this province proud.
