How to build your own computer

Do you remember the days when your parents bought a computer for you? You were probably ecstatic, but realized that your honeymoon phase ended faster than you could say “high speed internet upgrade?!” Well, now that you’re older and (hopefully) wiser, you’re probably planning to upgrade your personal computer. Perhaps you were thinking of getting a new (insert a random company name as to not sound too biased), that a sales person recommended. Or maybe you were googling all the best models from a large electronic store, hoping that the customer reviews would be of use to you.

Well, what if you could upgrade your computer using simple guides, your own hands and a click of a mouse button? Instead of shelling out hundreds of dollars for a mediocre pre-built PC, why not invest in creating your own PC? The idea of it might sound a bit daunting, but Hardware Revolution has some really great and in-depth guides to help you plan PCs based on the type (gaming, home theater, workstation) and price range. All you have to do is actually obtain the computer parts and build it!

Using websites like Newegg and Amazon (and avoid using Ebay for this purpose) can save you hundreds compared to going to a store like Memory Express (which is a great store to buy parts, but can be a bit pricey). For one thing, the online websites are convenient and makes it easier to find what you’re looking for (search bar for the win!). However, even if you’re not faced with a pushy sales person, your product might be delayed while shipping to your house and you might miss out on a huge sale.

Wherever you buy your parts, you’ve got to do a lot of research. Using guides or asking tech-savvy friends are a huge help, especially if you’re just a beginner at computers and hardware. After you found all the parts that you’re looking for (and make sure that you get each component necessary in a PC, or else you’re left with a half-finished PC and you’ll be waiting for the next shipment for your parts), you will have to build it.

Now, you can either hire someone to build it for you (which isn’t necessary) since they have experience and training, or you can search for guides and attempt to build one. As long as you don’t short-circuit your parts (touch metal before you handle these parts), then everything should be a-okay! I know this isn’t a huge in-depth guide on building computers, but that’s what the interwebz is for! I’m just here to introduce ideas and be awesome helpful 😀

So if you want to save money while getting an awesome computer, and if you’re also a patient person, then what’re you waiting for? Build a computer! It will truly be personalized 🙂
