Last week I went to see the movie Colombiana, starring Zoe Saldana who plays a girl that seeks revenge for the death of her family. She trains to be an assassin in order to hunt down and kill the people responsible and she also hunts down people that she and her uncle feels are a stain on the community and deserved to be punished. The fact that her parents are killed in front of them is continually expressed in the film which I feel kind of tries to impose it too much instead of keeping the premise of revenge constant in the film.
Truthfully, the only reason I went to watch the movie was beacuse it is from the writers of Wanted, being one of my favorite movies, and by the creator of La Femme Nikita and the Professional, also being phenomenal action hits. Some criticisms I have are that the movie was way too fast paced. One second there would be a fight scene and the next there would be a moment of regret and sorrow for all the deaths that the protagonist has faced. In my opinion, there should be a transition between these types of scenes.
I also think that Zoe Saldana was not the right choice for the protagonist since she is, in my opinion, too young for the role and someone with a more mature face could have played the role better than her and maybe even have earned a higher profit. Although a point they try to make in the movie is to show the gang violence in Colombia and its neighbouring countries, the movie doesn’t do a very good job of illustrating it. I did like the movie for the certain action and secretive scenes but for the most part, it wasn’t really that good of a movie.
