The annual Calgary Kiwanis Festival is in full swing for 2012. This is a music festival that features amateur musicians performing repertoire in their musical instrument, at all grade levels.
Giving almost 9,500 musicians the chance to perform for their peers and receive adjudication from the most high-caliber professional musicians, thousands of youth involved in fine arts compete at this festival to diversify their musical experience and gain valuable insight into their performances.
Every year a select group of individuals who catch the eye of adjudicators are recommended to continue competing at the Alberta Provincial Music Festival. Finalists at the provincial level compete at the National Festival later in the year, which is held in Fort McMurray this upcoming 2012 season. Higher level musicians can also receive scholarships in certain distinguished classes.
Among the competitive classes, the Rose Bowl is a coveted and prestigious award given to one musician who is most outstanding. Make sure to check out the Stars of the Festival concert, which will feature the greatest young musicians from the Festival; this really is the pinnacle of high-quality fine arts in Calgary.
Kiwanis is on until March 17, so be sure to support any youth around you who are competing! (:
